New Netflix Experience on iPhone

More and more of you are using Netflix on mobile devices every day. Already millions of Netflix members use their smartphones to instantly watch movies and TV shows anywhere, anytime.

We are always working to improve the experience so Netflix members discover more great titles and watch more. Today I am happy to announce the release of a completely new Netflix experience for iPhone and iPod touch.
Compared to the previous version, the new Netflix experience on iPhone and iPod touch is much more immersive. You will see many more titles and galleries than we have ever shown before on a smartphone. It is much closer to the Netflix experience on tablets, which got a major upgrade late last year.

At the top of the new browse screen on iPhone and iPod touch is a row that lets you continue watching shows or movies that you previously started watching right where you left off, a very handy feature. The Instant Queue, available in some regions, is presented on the Home screen just below your Top 10 list. Lower down in the new experience are several personalized rows filled with movie and TV show recommendations.

Tapping the browse menu gives you access to an extensive list of genre galleries that show even more titles organized into categories. Parents--like me--will really appreciate the children and family gallery with many titles organized by age.

A simple tap on any title presents all of the information for that title and a double-tap on any title starts instant playback. Also, search is available everywhere in the application, so you can always find what you are looking for.

This new experience on iPhone and iPod touch together with our recently released new player experience significantly advances the Netflix experience on smartphones.

The new Netflix experience is available for iPhone and iPod Touch devices using iOS v5.0 and above. Download the new Netflix iPhone experience today in the App Store.

We will soon release an optimized version of this new experience for iPhone 5 to take advantage of the larger screen.

For our members on Android phones, please stay tuned. We will be releasing a new Netflix experience for Android phones soon!

Tip: Double tap to switch between wide and full screen display.

Additionally we have expanded the settings menu in our App so you can now choose to only allow streaming from Netflix when you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Netflix comes to Apple TV

Bill Holmes here, VP of business development.

Today Steve Jobs unveiled the new second-generation Apple TV, which includes streaming instantly from Netflix at no additional charge to Netflix members.

This is the third significant announcement this year about a Netflix collaboration with Apple. First came the introduction in April of a Netflix app for iPad, which was followed a few weeks ago by an app for iPhone and iPod touch. We couldn’t be more pleased than to be in partnership with Apple to enable you to instantly watch movies and TV shows from Netflix on these groundbreaking devices.

Of course, we’re continuing to work on more devices and platforms to reach our goal of being ubiquitous on every screen on which you’d want to watch movies and TV episodes streamed instantly from Netflix.

The new Apple TV brings this goal even closer.

Enjoy!
Bill

Netflix on iPhone Coming This Summer

Hi, John Ciancutti, VP of personalization technology, here. Today I had the unique opportunity to present the app we’re working on for iPhone at the Apple Worldwide Developer’s Conference in San Francisco. Our CEO Reed Hastings reiterated our excitement to bring Netflix to iPhone and more than 5,000 developers cheered when they saw how watching instantly will look on the groundbreaking mobile device that you carry in your pocket. If you use an iPhone, like I do, get ready to watch instantly on it this summer!
