The lack of Mac access to instant viewing is ridiculous. The claim by Netflix that it is a DRM issue just does not ring true to me, unless Netflix just doesn't think Mac users are worth any special effort. All of the major networks have ways of streaming high-quality video of their shows to my Mac. The networks are certainly concerned about intellectual property. If they can do it, so can Netflix. Is this really about DRM or is it about competing with iTunes?

I too use a Mac, and I personally think I should be paying less for the Netflix service than my PC counterparts. I'm clearly not getting the full benefit of the service, so why should I pay for a feature I'm prevented from using?

(ps: using Boot Camp or Parallels is not a solution. It's a cop-out)

The Watch Instantly feature is implemented using a Microsoft technology. Yes, maybe it hurts you because you're a Mac user (I am, too - I bought my Mac *after* I had used Watch Instantly, so I knew I was going to lose it), but Netflix is a business, and while it has a lot of Mac clients, it has many times more Windows clients.

If the studios only agree to license streaming views of their movies to a third party with DRM that meets certain restrictions, then Netflix has no choice but to use it. Apple doesn't license their DRM; Silverlight doesn't provide the media codecs for Mac; and those comparing to Hulu forget that it's a STUDIO-OWNED initiative, so they'd be willing to loosen restrictions to build an audience.

(If you haven't guessed already, my day job is as a software developer and occasional "business development guy".)

My concern is that I can't drag all my queued Watch Instantly movies into my regular queue, or drag a subset of my regular queue into Watch Instantly. That'd insulate me from the irritation of not being able to use Watch Instantly on my Mac, as I'd at least get the discs at home. Alternately, hurry up and deliver a Netflix client for PS3 :-)

Netflix subscribers pay the same amount every month whether you own a pc or a mac, but are not entitled to the same features as they do not work on mac computers.
When is this going to be solved???

The Good:
+ I love DVD mailing service and the broad selection from great TV episodes.
+ Customer service has been responsive, polite and helpful. I'm *surprised* to hear that some customers were treated poorly.
The not-so-good:
- The selection choice for Instant Watch. Perhaps Netflix should be aggressive with its competitors too to pressure the big-guys regarding streaming content. But I'm sure Netflix has thought about this already :).

A big problem with 'instant play' is that one of my DVD's changed from pay to instant as it was being shipped to me. I am now paying for a movie free to everyone else. I had NO time to move it in my queue.

Customer Service was nothing but negative with every solution I suggested.
I think Netflix should offer a bonus DVD when this happens.

I'm really concerned now that this will happen more often to me. If it does, I'll cancel my membership

I didn't get a chance to see if anyone else chimed in with this request, but I want this too! I have a profile set up for my young adult daughter but do NOT want to embed my password on her computer in order for her to watch an instant movie. Even with 4 movies at a time we find ourselves (especially at the end of a weekend or first couple of days of the week) without anything to watch. And when her father and I go on vacation I would like for her to be able to get our money's worth without knowing my password. The service is "unlimited" anyway and allowed on multiple computers in the house so why can't all profiles access it? Doesn't make sense to me at all. Thanks for listening!

I think the instant queue feature is a great idea. However it's one I am unable to enjoy since I own a Macbook.

THANK YOU! We just received the email informing my fiancé and I about the change and about how we will lose our separate profiles. I'm so angry I went searching on-line hoping to find some better explanation. I cannot fathom a single rational reason for eliminating this function, unless they seriously think families will purchase separate plans for different members of the family.

Having separate profiles is essential for my fiancé and I, as we have completely different taste in movies. By having separate queues, we not only get our own movies from our own lists, but we are able to rate movies separately. If Blockbuster or some other service is willing to provide this service, Netflix will lose us as customers.

I have to agree - being able to have separate profiles with separate queues was one of the most useful features of the Netflix service - and the explanation that they are taking this functionality away in order to "improve the Netflix website" is total bullshit.

Does anyone know if Blockbuster has this functionality - if they do, that may be enough to make me consider switching.

I'm soo glad that I have to pay the SAME AMOUT for my netflix account with LESS FEATURES available as a PC user.

You need to either get Mac support VERY soon, or reduce the price for Mac users. I'm only a netflix user because it was a gift, and my decision to stay with it and pay for the service after the gift expires will rely solely on whether or not this feature is available on my Mac.
