A Linux / Mythbox user.
Most of my PC's run Linux on the home net. I am trying Netflix on trial mode, but it looks like I will cancel. No Linux; No Netflix. Bye.

I would also like add another request for Netflix on Linux. I use MythTV for my mult-room DVR needs but because it is Linux I can not do mult-room Netflix "Watch Instantly" unless I install Windows 7 on all my existing computers.

I installed Windows 7 on one of them to see if it was a possible solution however I could not play back HD quality video without stuttering from both my Local videos as well as Netflix streaming. I am able to playback HD quality video when running Linux on the same computer with zero issues. I would love to see support in Boxee on Linux or even a separate desktop client.

Another solution for me is the Roku player which looks wonderful but the killer is that it is a separate device. The number of devices per room is inversely proportional to the the wife-acceptance-factor.

Please Support Linux!

Since it seems this stream of comments is now nearly exclusively asking for Linux support, I'd like to throw in my request for a Linux version of Watch Instantly as well. When I did I search for Linux on this page it gave me 100 entries. I wonder if we mention Linux over and over they'll finally listen and give us Linux people some love.

Please implement a Linux solution for online streaming. I love the service, but it's too darned inconvenient to hook up an extra computer to the TV every time we want to use it, especially since I have a perfectly good Linux HTPC already connected. What will probably end up happening is that I will just have to cancel our subscription because we aren't able to use it enough to justify the monthly expense. I tell you what I won't do, buy another device to plug in to my TV, which is already saturated with inputs.

I am disappointed with Netflix. They refuse to make their watch instantly feature available to all subscribers. They use an inefficient plug in from Microsoft which hogs your computers processor and denies service to anyone who doesn't pay money to Microsoft. Way to blow it for the Linux users Netflix!

Netflix silverlight is so horrible its almost intolerable. Its extremely choppy, and uses up a tremendous amount of resources, compared to any other video player. And after watch a few episodes consecutivly, IE will lock up and ill have to restart it. The old player wasn't great but it was 100 times better than silverlight. Better quality, less bandwidth, and less CPU resources. I continually hope for some improvements, and am always disappointed. Its been over a year of this. They could have created there own player, by now and probably be cheaper than licensing fees they pay to microsoft. Every few months i check out their competitors hoping they have a comparable product so i can switch. What isn't this getting better......

Another Linux user here...

I think Netflix offers a great service at a very reasonable price, but I canceled my membership due to the lack of Linux support.

I'm a software engineer and I understand it can be difficult to make applications compatible with a variety of platforms; But I have yet to hear an explanation from netflix as to what problems exist that would prevent native Linux support (since moonlight has come about).

The figures regarding Linux "market share" don't accurately depict how popular Linux has become. More and more users are discovering that Linux is a stable, friendly, free, open-source operating system that serves as an excellent computing environment.

In short, Netflix is losing a huge amount of business (including mine) and it will continue to lose business as more people discover that Linux is a superior OS - more secure, efficient and powerful than Windows and OS X.

Do the smart thing Netflix... pay attention to your customers. Believe me, if Netflix offers linux support, stories will pop up on slashdot and other tech sites where savvy users frequent, and you will see traffic (and business) increase dramatically. So please, be up front about the development process and get things moving.

Another linux user wanting support for instant watch here. I'm not going to say or even intimate that this should be trivial (as nothing ever is) because the Roku box is Linux based, or because Silverlight has been ported over as Moonlight.

However, its really irritating that out of all the other possibilities for watching tv and movies on my linux box, Netflix is the only one that doesn't work.

Another person hoping there will be Linux support in the future. I've been very happy with Netflix, but offering on-demand viewing on Linux is the one thing a competitor could do to make me switch to their service.

I guess "all users" mean "Windows & Mac" only. I am aware that the user base of Linux might not be that big, but I'd really like to be able to fully enjoy the Netflix experience, even on Linux which is the only platform I've installed at home... I'm already sick enough of using Windows at work to have to suffer at home too...

Still no Linux support? And what ever happened to PS3 support? I'd say Netflix is in bed with Microsoft. Im going to quit, I've waited enough time for support for both of these. And especially in this day and age when Microsoft finally admits they see Linux as a threat (because it is a superior product of course, it always works!), Linux and Firefox stats are growing each and every month, and with HD DVD long dead now the PS3 is the superior home entertainment system for non-gamers. I've waited and waited holding onto my netflix account, but being a programmer myself and liking my computers to actually boot up and work, I wont touch Windows anymore with a "10 foot pole". I hope this economy is Linux time to shine and MS goes down in flames against them and google (another company that has proven they can actually make things that work and doesn't leave us Linux users in the cold).
