I ignore the similarity feature, because after checking out the people who are purported to be similar to me, I find that they are not. AT ALL.

The only thing is they have rated more movies than I, so perhaps they overlap a little, but checking out what is in my 5 star list and theirs, I really see NO similarity. Not even a bit. They love the movies I hate. I love the movies they hate. And we have a very small amount in common. Movies almost everyone loves.

I just think, how is this being determined? It's completely inaccurate.

Please, please, please get the "recent reviews" ticker to slow down. It's just to fast, and quite frankly, I click off the main community page as quickly as possible to avoid the eye-annoying scrolling. I'm thinking that us clicking off the page as quickly as possible isn't what you want to happen?

No offense to the guy running this blog... but I wish that netflix would spend more energy adding "watch instantly" movies than wasting time on this community crap.

It seems like every website is trying to jump on the "community" bandwagon, but I seriously don't care. Just give me the feature that you promised me months ago. The "watch instantly" feature is a big part of the reason why I didn't canceled netflix and switched to blockbuster, but now it's looking like it's never going to be worth it.

And yeah, sorry if you don't want to get these types of comments here. Welcome to the internet.

There are still bugs with Top Ten Lists. For instance, I can't add "American Beauty". It makes me add some movie called "The American Beauty". No matter what I try, I don't get an option for the movie without "The" in the title.

Also, adding television series seems difficult. It will let me add Season 6 or 7 of "That '70s Show", but no matter what I try I can't seem to get any of the other seasons.

What about films with the same name? I know this has been brought up before, but it's still a problem...I want to add both versions of "The Wicker Man" to a list (yes, I liked the remake!) but I only get one option. How about multiple listings, with the production year after the title (eg, "The Wicker Man (2006)")?

Excellent! or, as Bob Altman used to say after a particularly good take : "That was adequate". And since we're already far off topic, I totally agree that Netflix can't be expected to power-wash every DVD. The problem is that when they first came out they were billed as indestructible, but they obviously need to be treated almost as gently as vinyl records, if anyone remembers those - i.e. only held by the edges and returned to their sleeve right after playing . And for cracked ones we should be using 'report shipping problems', NOT a movie review.

Hey everybody. I've been posting for quite some time as an anon, thought I'd finally come out into the light, after some of you made me feel like a lurker with the anon comments! :)

A few random things, plus some responses to what has been brought up here:

I got someone with an 88 sim% today. I thought that was notable.

Anyone wanting to hold on to sim% friends--while you won't be able to contact them in any way--just Favorite or Bookmark their ratings page. Seems simple and I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it, but there you go.

I've tried putting my "Invite a Friend" URL into a Review. It won't let you. :)

Amazon has a better reccomendation system because the numbers are only happening One-Way. They aren't comparing what you buy or view against all these other Amazon users. Sure, sometimes my high sim% people don't make much sense, but there's alot of complex, multi-angle math going on there. Besides, I already know what I want to watch, and I bet you do, too.

We need a flag on reviews for people complaining about scratched discs, etc etc. These reviews have no place on that movies At-a-Glance page. And guess what people. these are DVDs, they are gonna get scratched, there's no way around it, and I don't think Netflix has time to watch every movie we return to make sure they're still playable. That's just a hazard of renting DVDs, either through the mail or in-store.

I rather enjoy seeing what people in my home town are watching. Please don't get rid of this feature. And people, please, for the hundreth time: you CAN change the zip code and view other cities!

Michael, I think the bug with the similarity box may still be there. Mine is working sometimes now, but I'm still not sure that it's always right. When I looked at it yesterday it only had two people in it, and whet I checked it this morning it didn't have any. Then when I went back later this afternoon it was full again. Does the similarity algorithm only run against a small subset of users (small enough that sometimes nobody is returned)? Or has the bug that was there only partially been fixed?

On a side note, I found someone who was 83% similar today, and I grabbed 5 or 6 movies off their 5-star list to add to my queue (movies that I very likely wouldn't have found otherwise). That alone makes the new features worthwhile to me.

I'd love to be able to search for people with very high similarity. My sister and myself were talking about this the other day (oddly, right before the community page hit - definitely a start!) and we both wanted to be able to search and add friends with high similarity... it would be a nice way to find new movies (as good as netflix's recommendations can be, it's nice to get them from other humans as well). The community features need to be expanded -- there is so much Netflix can offer in the community space that is just completely lacking elsewhere (like a Facebook app!).

Add half stars, a facebook app for Facebook and a way to search for similar people on Netflix and I'll be quite happy.

Just wanted to let you know that I am enjoying the new community page. I am also a user that wouldn't mind getting in contact with strangers or strangers getting in contact with me. I would also love to search for friends that have netflix accounts that I was unaware of and add them as friends. Basically I would like to see similar MySpace contact and search features built into the Netflix community page. That would be very helpful. In the meantime, you're off to a good start!

I think the sims are O.K., I like to look at other custom lists. It would be cool to leave reviews about someone's lists. I think knowing someone's top 10 tells me more than a list of 5 stars.
