I have three at a time. I never received any complementary dvd, nor did they send out any from my queue. What Netflix did is sent out two dvds and the third one four days later. Once the two dvds were returned, they only sent two dvds to replace them. So instead of three at a time. I'm only getting two-at-a-time with the third one delayed for four days.

My two weeks free trial went without a hitch. Once they started charging me, that's when trouble began.

Are you positive this is what is happening, as their complaints seem to be more along the line of not understanding that a copy is not available from their zoned hub NOR the next closest.

I've found many times since the new DVD shipping process that if something was further off, but available, it was shipped along with the complementary DVD.

What you're saying seems to be the same misunderstanding others are having, and complaining about above.

Can we get a Netflix person to confirm what the real issue is? It is their blog, after all.

The complaints you've been reading about "Short Wait"/"Long Wait" refers to the fact that now, instead of going to the next closest shipping hub to send available copies of "Wait" titles, Netflix is either waiting for one of the titles to become available at each customer's nearest hub (and in many cases, the nearest hub doesn't even stock them) or waiting until any remaining "Now Available" titles in the customer's queue are mailed (even if they happen to be at the bottom of the queue) before contacting the next closest hub in order to have them ship the "Wait" DVD from the top of the queue.

It's still completely insane to me that the majority of these comments are complaining about A DIFFERENT TOPIC COMPLETELY than what's written above.
Do any of you know how to comprehend what you've read?

The new process that began in December has NOTHING to do with discs that are not available (i.e. "short wait" "long wait").

The policy that skips over those discs in your queue has ALWAYS been in place. The reason is skips them is because there aren't any discs of that title to send. They're all in use by other members at that time.

It's quite similar to when you go to a video store and see that one title has run out. All of the boxes are empty, as it's in high demand and patrons have all rented it. You understand that, so why all the complaints about the same thing?

You'll receive the "short wait" or "long wait" DVDs when they're ACTUALLY available in your queue. Perhaps you shouldn't use this sort of service when all you want are new titles. I'm sure there's tons of movies out there you've never seen that are readily available.

The "short wait" "long wait" attributes change often, btw. Do you check it every day? if so, you may notice that they jump from one to the other, and even are "available" and then suddenly back to wait-listed. If you're due for a shipped item but not at the time in which it was available, you won't get it. Obviously.

I don't understand why the notion of waiting in line and product availability has completely flown over the heads of SO many commenting here.

The extra DVD that this entry is referring to comes when a title that's next in your queue IS AVAILABLE but comes from a different shipping facility than the one your address is zoned for and will therefore take 3-5 days longer than the next available title. As a courtesy, they send out the next one that's AVAILABLE from your zoned facility in addition to the one that's a late arrival. For those complaining that it's never happened to them, it's likely because you're looking at unavailable DVDs (short wait, long wait).

This new shipping process isn't working out for me at all. No matter how long I waited, DVDs with a "Short Wait" (or "Long Wait" for that matter) were not being sent to me until all "Now Available" titles in my queue were used up.
In order to receive a handful of "Short Wait" DVDs which had been at the top of my queue for months, I had to stop adding additional discs to my list. In doing so, one of my "Short List" DVDs would finally be sent to me from a shipping center other than my local one (El Paso). However, I would get only one a week, as it turned out (and I have a 3-at-a-time plan).
Only after the shipping center received my returned DVD would Netflix begin locating and sending my next "Short Wait" disc from another shipping center.
The other day I added 16 titles to my queue, most of which said "Now Available." But today when I checked my queue, 15 out of those 16 now said "Short Wait," which means the only way I'm going to receive them is if I remove the one "Now Available" title and begin the whole one-a-week situation again!
In February, I was assured by a Netflix rep. that my recently opened El Paso shipping center will have a full stock of discs by April, which should eliminate my long wait for these titles. But this obviously isn't the case, as we're hitting June.
Until Netflix comes up with a better solution, I think they should allow customers the option of waiting an extra day or two to receive desired DVDs from a different shipping center (which is how Netflix previously handled their shipments anyway, before changing their policy last December).
After all, what's the point of including thousands of titles in your listings which cannot be made available to customers unless their nearest shipping center happens to carry them?
The main reason I signed up with Netflix six years ago was to be able to view films which weren't readily available elsewhere. And if some of those titles were going to take a little longer to reach my mailbox, that's fine----it's better than not getting to see tham at all.
So give each customer the sign-up option of saying "If a title (or titles) at the top of my queue isn't available from my nearest shipping center, I would like it sent from the next closest center. I understand it may take a little longer for me to receive it."
Otherwise I'm seriously considering cancelling my membership.

I was a loyal Netflix customer with zero complaints and nothing but positive feelings for over eight years. Then Netflix decided to charge $1 extra for Blu-Ray. No real problem, $12 a year. Not happy, complained but stayed a loyal customer. Then a few months later they up the monthly to charge to $4. Goodbye! I immediately cancelled and signed up at Blockbuster. No extra charge for Blu-Ray! Service quality is about the same. I will save the cost of two Blu-Ray movies in the first year. I can't believe that Netflix hasn't taken a bath in subscriber defections from this terrible "business" decision.
