There are at least two facebook netflix apps that I know of and have tried, and neither one is exceptionally good. It just pulls some movies from the RSS feeds and shows them. It'd be nice if people could click on something in the netflix feed and basically send me a netflix friendship request. In some anonymous manner, of course. What if I don't want the clicker to be my friend or see my full list of movies?

Also, it'd be nice if you could have a movie in your list that you don't want your friends/feeds to know you have in the list.

1. Go crazy ... Create an API similar to the one facebook has where a user could develop his/her own applications. They could integrate into Windows Live, Facebook, Myspace (when it becomes available), Windows Mobile, etc. Model this after the Facebook API.

2. Facebook app to allow other users to make movie recommendations for you. These then show up on your NetFlix account.

3. Facebook app to show movies current in your queue.

Noticed that Blockbuster is now offering a 25% discount to Movielink to those with .edu addresses. This is an interesting issue from a social networking point of view. Facebook took off in the university environment, so if Blockbuster finds a way to develop a loyal cadre of university students for its movielink service, it could undercut Netflix's nascent and promising efforts. I want my Facebook friends to see what I am watching and how I rate my movies. In addition, a movie trivia feature (something comparative to ilike's set up) would be awesome - I spend way to many hours on that trying to beat my little brothers score. Also, it would be sweet if you could add a feature that allows friends to tag movie suggestions onto profiles and store those suggestion in a separate queue on our netflix pages.

I've been hoping for a Facebook app. I like the GoodReads app - it shows a couple of books I'm currently reading, and a couple that I've read recently, along with my ratings of each. I have to choose to update it on my Facebook profile. If the app had a comparison feature so that I could rank myself against my friends by getting them to add the app, I probably wouldn't use it, as I rarely add apps that require that my friends have the same app. I like those that simply post my info without my friends having to get actively involved.

I think the best feature would be to have the similarity between other people. They already have something similar to this, but I'm not going to go through hundreds of movies like i have with netflix. It would be more accurate in this sense because it would have a whole index of the movies you've watched to make a better similarity between people.

If there was a super feature it'd have to have a link to the friends queue, automatically make all your friends with facebook friends on your netflix, have a easier review system on facebook and make adding a movie to your queue through netflix possible.

Thanks for the fabulously concise endorsement! In Michael's latest post he speaks of an anonymous path to friendship via an HTML invite, which would seem to get us halfway there. But (a) how do you get the invite to a particular person? And (b) it sure sounds like a lot of work just to have a brief exchange of ideas/death threats over a movie.

But it's encouraging to see that Netflix sees the need for some kind of minimal, anonymous, movie-related and above all mutually agreed contact between members without having to head off to a whole other site.
