This is Fenot Tekle from the Netflix Communications team writing to let our members in Canada know that Netflix will be streaming more than 350 movies from Paramount for you to watch instantly. Canadians can now watch popular titles like “Iron Man 2" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and over time, we will add fan favorites like "Titanic" and "The Last Airbender," comedies like “Zoolander” and “Wayne’s World,” and beloved classics like “The African Queen,” “Sabrina” (1954) and “Terms of Endearment.” To learn more, click here.

  1. This is great news. I've been holding off until canada gets some better content.

    Thanks Netflix!

  2. What's the point, people, of giving us Iron Man 2 when the original is still unavailable?

Netflix's ways are strange and inconsistent.

  3. Good start. To a new customer, this will add a few more watchable titles (apparently still mostly older), but to make the service still seem really worthwhile, the most important thing is still getting some more quality TV shows.
Once you watch a movie, you're most likely not going to watch again any time soon, but a TV show will keep you coming back over and over again.

  4. Still no Netflix on Google TV for Canadians?

  5. Any chance there might be an HBO deal in the works anytime soon? Would love to see Big Love or True Blood on Netflix.

  6. Canada wants the Star Trek episodes!!

  7. Great newer content, but still NO SHOW QUEUE for Canadians.. Canada is not that backward we can handle the complexity of adding movies to a queue.. Why hide this feature from Canada ???

    Sigh

  8. More content is a good thing, but The Last Airbender is a "fan favourite?" You must mean fan in the singular. Whoever and wherever he is, I hope he appreciates being able to watch it on Netflix.

  13. Awesome! I've been with Netflix.ca since the day it launched and it's worth every penny and just getting better.

  14. HBO is owned by TMN in Canada so I doubt we'll be getting any HBO content within the next few years. This is great news though. I'm really happy with netflix, I know some people are disappointed, but 80% of the content is stuff i watch consistently. Thanks for Farscape, Firefly, Arrested Development, and for giving us options outside of what the cable providers lock us into.

  15. It's always great to add new things, but is there any word on whether or not the english-language films that play dubbed in French are going to be fixed any time soon?

I'd like to watch Dead Man on Campus, and I've heard other people mention several other titles doing the same thing.

  18. When do we get to stream movies like iron man 2 in the states ¿ Also, when can we stream movies to our smart phones like my Evo ¿ And lastly, why doesn't Netflix have it's own app for droids ¿ I'm not comfortable using a third party program and giving it my login/account info to a third party!!!
Also, when can we get more streaming series like The Tudors, True Blood, Queer as Folk ... Hard to enjoy sites and movies 1 disc at a time ... Streaming is much better, please get more titles available for streaming!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. yes its good to have iron man 2 but why not the first one also?

  20. Great news. Thank you. Two requests:
    1. Star Trek
    2. The ability to add shows to a queue

    ReplyDelete
  21. Definitely good news!!!

  22. So when will California be able to watch decent content on Instant? You keep pushing us away from DVD's but are not providing any content. I live in the Silicon Valley where Netflix is based and am going to cancel ASAP if things don't change!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I also would like to see startrek content added to netflix. Original, TNG, Voyager, Enterprise...maybe ds9. ;) then the movies.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Don't hold your breath on HBO shows! Netflix just burned a bridge with Showtime...wouldn't be surprised if they do the same with HBO!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I knew you would hear our cries. Please give us a queue so we can watch all these new movies without having to hunt more than once.

  26. I will pay for Netflix when you get more
    - Star Trek
    - Doctor Who
    - Stargate
    - Other sci-fi

  28. While it's great that you are helping out us Canadians with our issues of CRTC and less content, but how about giving us a Wishlist!!

Even with the 'lower amount of content' on the Canadian site, there is still TONS of content and we can't possibly remember everything we want to watch.

Is a wishlist of some sort really so hard to do???

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Kray-Z there are no issues with the CRTC unless you are talking about the internet download caps they do not regulate online content

  30. We're in and we're loving Netflix. Our whole family loves it - thanks! We got rid of cable and never are at a loss for things to watch.

  31. When will it work on Google TV?

  32. Great news, I was thinking about cancelling. Hopefully a deal with Paramount is only a start. More deals with major movie studios please!

  35. I still think it was a wrong move to remove add to dvd queue from streaming devices ... Just makes it more frustrating then better for the paying customer which you seem to forget, I read the comments on that post and the majority feel the same way, but apparently you don't really care about customers wants since it's been a few months and you still haven't returned that ability ... DON'T SHOW DVD ONLY MOVIES ON THE SEARCH LIST THEN cause all it does is piss me off when I see something listed dvd only then hafta get online and add the dvd ... Irritating!!! Also, you raise the price and yet still don't offer much for streaming ... Like newer movies, series like the tudors, queer as folk, true blood, just to name a few ... And still no ability to stream to smart phones ... Come on now, if you are gonna raise prices, then give us what we want!!!

  36. Funny, Netflix announces a whole bunch of movies available to Canada, the very first movie that i searched was unavailable, yet it was in the announcment. I searched Zoolander and it was unavailiable. So, out of the 350 movies announced by netflix, how many did we acatually get?????

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think it's great news but really wish there was an actual release date to look forward to. As it stands no one has any clue as to when anything might be added.
A list with release dates would make alot of people happy!

Please tell me Canadian members will soon be able to see shows like Lost, Sons of Anarchy and others.

    ReplyDelete
  38. When are these 350 paramount movies going to be on Netflix Canada. I am currently on the free trial of netflix although we love the convenience we are finding that there are not enough newer movies and some of the tv shows like Grey's Anatomy for instance are not available and allot of the movies are only available in the US. What is up with that?

  39. FIX THE iPAD and MOBILE APPS- THey're Awful now. Totally ruined them with the last update. Useless. Can't manage account, view DVD queue, change queue. Worst update ever. Whoever stripped away all functionality of your mobile apps needs to be canned ASAP.

  40. And apparently lowers their variety of films available. Last month there were films by foreign directors such as Pasolini available, this month a search for Pasolini shows up zero. He's still there but the new search engine apparently doesn't look up advanced concepts like directors.

  41. We like Netflix and are quite happy. Would like Iron Man to be available along with Iron Man 2. (Having the sequel available on Netflix but not the original is not unusual. It's weird, but not unusual.)
Would like to see HBO content as well, but am not holding my breath given snide comments on previous blog posts.
I do not understand why content is more limited in Canada than in the US. Is it a CANCON thing? Does it have anything to do with the CRTC? If there is a reasonable explanation, I would like to hear it. If there is not, then provide more content please.

  42. When will the United States get better instant movies?
This is good news for the Canadians but, why not the same deal for the Americans?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Still not seeing many added titles for Canada. Where's the 350 movies we were supposed to get? Without a Paddle sequel is hardly a good movie. If you could give us some release dates then i could hold out another month or two but i'm seriously thinking of giving up and coming back maybe next year.

    ReplyDelete
  44. cant wait for the day canada has access to all the titles, theres nothing more annoying yhen when you sudjest me something, and its not avilable.

  45. I am wondering what you think will happen with Netflix in Canada, seeing as there is talk that Shaw will be implementing Usage-Based Internet Billing. From what I've read, it seems likely that Bell and Telus would follow suit. I sure wouldn't be able to afford to pay for internet with how much I use Netflix each month...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Awesome, glad to hear these will be coming out.

  47. then why is it here in the US we still have to have our recently released movies mailed to us

    ReplyDelete
  48. i love netflix but i am tired of having them mailed to me. those who want theirs in the mail should have that option those of us who have a device if we want only streaming then we should have that option no matter what movie it is. i dont see why i see the message short or long wait and i have a box streaming my movies

  49. I'm using the free trial in Canada. The content is disappointing. U.S. Netflix has everything I want to watch, Canada Netflix - not so much. I want US Netflix not a poor cousin. Why can I rate Dexter but not watch it? When I am given the option to rate a movie I assume it's available. Why no queue? How about more BBC series? How often is there new content added? Why is there no place for comments and questions except this blog?

The deal they have out is great and the service people I have spoken to have all been fabulous and with perfect English....no "Peggies"! Excellent service!

  52. The reason content is so limited in Canada is due mostly to big cable companies like Shaw, Bell, Rogers. Netflix is intruding in their market and causing them to lose a percentage of their profits. Unfortunately they hold the broadcast rights to most of the good stuff and will not release it. Oh and don't forget internet caps and pay per usage billing, government lobbying, crtc pressure etc. All to keep up the cash flow.

  58. Dear Netflix,

I have noticed that the content on the US version of netflix is much greater than that of Canada. Why is that? I really hope that in the near future we will have as much access to films and shows as our neighbours do. Till then I will hold off buying an account for I see no point in paying for such a limited choice of entertainment. If everything is being done to increase the content, but, still unable because of service providers, please, let us consumers know if there is anything we can do to help.

    Thank you,

    Andy

  60. I called Netflix today and gave them some feedback about the new site. 1.) There are not titles and the titles on the cover art is always in different fonts, locations and occasionally not on the cover. 2.) The scrolling is jerky and there is no way to slow it down or speed it up. 3.) Star ratings are only visible with mouse over cover art. 4.) It is now harder to add an item to my queue to watch later or on a different device. 5.) Sortable search is missing, there is no way to organize titles by ratings, year released or alphabetically. 6.) The changes were made without any instructions on how to use the new lay.out. The help feature still features the old layout for instructions. 7.) For an internet company, Neflix does not have an online feature for leaving feedback. 8.) The blog is full at 5000 comments with people putting additional comments on the MTV announcement blog. 9.) There has been no public statement from Netflix acknowledging the customer unrest. 10.) My previously viewed titles are no longer present. I like watching tv and it was easy to pick back up on the next episode by the previously viewed titles 11.) When I place my account on hold or choose to cancel Netflix does not ask me for a reason to improve there customer service. i.e. I am going on vacation, I am unhappy with selection, I am unhappy with features, I will not have time for viewing. etc... Instead there is no option to gain insight from their customers unless they choose to call a 18-- number which is not required when you have a web presence with the ability to collect the data. 12.) At the end of my phone call I am asked to take a survey of 1 question. Are you satisfied with Netflix? Press 3 for yes and Press 4 for no. This does not give any useful information. It does not collect why I am dissatisfied or what features I do like. So to sum things up, if after my account has been on hold the maximum and the website is not given the functionality back that the old site has I will be cancelling my service and trying Hulu Plus.

Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what youre saying. Great job, indeed.
