GLEE AVAILABLE TO WATCH INSTANTLY

Hi, Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, here. Hey, Gleeks (and fans of other great TV programs in the U.S.), this is for you: the entire first season of “Glee” --with every song and dance and all the drama from the halls of McKinley High -- will be available starting tomorrow to watch instantly streaming from Netflix. Glee’s availability is part of an announcement we made today with Twentieth Century Fox, which gives Netflix members in the U.S. access to the first season of the pop culture juggernaut “Glee,” and the first two seasons of the cult favorite “Sons of Anarchy.” We’ll also be adding great shows like “Ally McBeal” and “The Wonder Years” to be instantly watched from Netflix at this time. This deal kicks off a multi-year partnership that will have additional seasons added every year. The addition of these shows is an expansion of our deal with Fox that also includes “Prison Break,” “Arrested Development,” X-Files,” “24,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” among others. Gleek On!

  2. It would be great if Netflix could have a Canadian Twitter account. Everytime I get these tweets I get all excited only to find it only in the US. Accurate information for your Canuck customers would be awesome!

  3. Netflix needs to stream more movies and series, because even if I Que a dvd its rarely available. BUILD UP THE INSTANT WATCH SELECTION PLEASE

  4. Canada left in the dark. This is becoming frustrating.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Great, but when is it coming to Canada?

    ReplyDelete
  6. The Wonder Years? Seriously. This is AMAZING. You can't get Wonder Years anywhere except reruns on cable TV. So excited!

    ReplyDelete
  7. OK-- So where's The Wonder Years? I don't see any streaming options there (but I do see the others mentioned here).

    ReplyDelete
  8. is this an april fools joke?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Will Buffy finally be available in Canada? We're paying for the service, too. Why isn't the same content available?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Where is "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"!? You have every other FX show on there!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Please allow audio/subtitle selection for streaming videos.

This would allow anime to be watched in Japanese.
Open up streaming videos to the deaf.

    ReplyDelete
  12. this is good news for fans of this tv show.however,as an anime fan i would like netflix to add more series to its catalog.thanks!

  13. Why does Netflix on Playstation 3 not have all the streaming content? For the longest myself and every netflix user I know thought that was ALL their content. I just went to website because adding video to my Instant Queue on PS3 wasn't working (go figure) and I found Top Gear 2 - 15 for instant streaming.. on Playstation? 9 - 13..

    What gives Netflix?!?

Who cares if you added all this stuff when only some platforms can even view it!

And other than calling, there's no way to communicate with netflix.. it's bs.. I'm not going to call some customer service line and be fed a script for an issue like this.

  14. This may be the best news I have ever heard!!! THIS IS FANTASTIC!!!! I was so sad because I thought 24 was going to be gone. Time to celebrate!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm curious about The Wonder Years. The reason they've never released the show on DVD is supposedly related to the music rights to all of the classic music used liberally throughout the series. Is the Netflix release going to have all of the original music?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Glee what? Who cares. THE WONDER YEARS! Yes.

If this is an April Fool's prank and they don't start streaming Wonder Yeas I'm totes cancelling my Netflix acct.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yawn. Netflix is evolving into a third-rate cable TV provider. We need more movies to watch instantly.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok... Unsure where to post... the last entry in the request for feedback was in 2007... these are the only new ones i can find.... where should i send suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Please include Justified & The Shield too!

    ReplyDelete
  20. i really thought wonder years was an april fools joke. i am relieved!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm not seeing The Wonder Years anywhere...

    ReplyDelete
  22. When I see play in dark blue for The Wonder then I will believe it, after all today is April fools .!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Wonder Years still says unavailable -
as far as I know it hasn't even been released on DVD yet
because of all the greed issues involved with the music -
if this was an April Fool's joke -
it was a pretty mean one.

I was glad to see Cheers streaming - but what happened to Frasier, Family Ties, Twilight Zone and Star Trek? -
I thought they were supposed to start streaming today to.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is awesome, I am a huge Glee fan but it sucks that it's not being available for us living in Canada. I get that the law and other things are different out here and deals need to be made for us to watch some of the US programs, but since we're paying the exact same and right now our money is worth more then the American dollar, shouldn't we get the same benefits and shows as the US? I also agree with Jade, you should make a Canadian account so that the new movies you add we don't get so excited and then disappointed when it's not for us.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Wonder Years isn't streaming. What's up with that?

    ReplyDelete
  26. So... Wonder Years... Where is it?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'd like to know the same! The press release made it sound like Wonder Years would be available like the rest yesterday?

    Any ETA?

    ReplyDelete
  28. the wonder years isn't streaming. just did a search and now streaming option. this is an april fools joke.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think this would be a very good April Fool's "joke". It's not very funny. I have to believe that they fully intend on streaming The Wonder Years... but when?

    ReplyDelete
  30. umm its not and all about Glee but Wonder Years has been that elusive show that ive been wanting to relive for YEARS... last time i ever really saw them was back in the 90s on nick at night.

So come on netflix where is it?

    ReplyDelete
  31. What's the deal with The Wonder Years? Come on already!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm a Canadian Gleek, do I just miss out?

  34. Keep buying the hype, Netflix.
    It worked wonders for MTV.....
You know ...that piece of crap
    cable channel that NO-ONE watches,
but is supposed to be the best?!!!
    Music TV...All Music..All The Time.
Movies made Netflix. TV will kill it. It has been nice.
Oh. BTW, if this crap is soooo good, why isn't it in re-runs. Uh, where a $poncer is clad to promote it? Netflix, you are buying turds. Please stop.

    Thank You

    ReplyDelete
  35. Awesome! When I heard Buffy was going off of instant, I was like, "Oh, crap... " (I have it on DVD, but having it on Netflix is great for when I need to check for a quote or something), but now I'm happy! :D

    ReplyDelete
  36. Still waiting to see Wonder Years pop up! Where oh where can it be!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hello Netflix?! Where is The Wonder Years already? argh!

    ReplyDelete
  38. At first i thought this was pretty neat to, but soon found that my friends in the U.S are able to browse a much larger selection then I am. For example , that 70's show / practical magic tons more. All i have to say is this is crap and the selection sucks, unless your into paying money for 1 or 2 good shows your all idiots

    ReplyDelete
  39. Please split your American and Canadian blogs so that we in Canada don't get our noses rubbed into it every time you announce great new shows that we won't be able to see.
Also - since I've never seen you respond to these blog posts I'm assuming you actually don't care or pay any attention to what your customers think. Why do you even have a comment section?

    ReplyDelete
  40. As prices for everything rise, thank you, Netflix, for providing such affordable entertainment. Your wide range of films and shows are genuinely appreciated by those who can't afford to see every movie in the theater!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Netflix, you have the worst customer service of any company. You provide no means of feedback excpet to calling your customer service group. All they will say is that they would be happy to cancel my account if I am unhappy. It is as if Netflix thinks they are the only game in town. Let me tell you, I am unhappy with your instant view selections, You have mostly nothing but old or bad movies available for instant viewing. You need to improve this selection or watch for the great number of cancellatons. Your mailing service is good, but even it does not have a huge selection of movies.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Like most everyone else here, I'm extremely upset that there's still no Wonder Years! However, I'm not convinced it was an April Fools prank because A) that news came directly from Netflix and B) all the other shows mentioned in that press release are now indeed streaming.

So why the hold up? I don't know, but if they don't get up there soon I'm seriously going to consider canceling. I've NEVER been more excited about anything coming to Watch Instantly more than this. TWY is my favorite show ever and due to the fact that it's never been released on DVD(and sadly, probably never will be) this is one thing I will not tolerate being lied to about.

Is the bloody music causing Netflix problems now too? Damn these music labels and their never ending greed!

  43. Captain of TruthApril 3, 2011 at 9:12 PM

I notice in the 17 page listing of New TV shows added to the Watch Instantly, there is a show I've never heard of called "Stephen King's: Golden Years."

    Golden Years.

Is it possible that the guy who posted this blog made the worst typo in the history of human civilization, and accidentally wrote "Wonder Years" when he meant to type "Golden Years"?

If so, this is a tragedy of unparalleled magnitude.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh my good god Captain of Truth, I think you're right. That poor guy is going to lose his job. He has gotten thousands and thousands of people massively excited (including me)....and it's a mistake?! Why won't Netflix come clean??

    ReplyDelete
  45. Where oh where are the Wonder Years? Still anxiously waiting...

    ReplyDelete
  46. This comment has been removed by the author.

  47. Captain Truth,
I also noticed something interesting: all of the shows mentioned in this post were about shows that are coming as a result of a deal struck between Netflix and 20th Century Fox. The problem is, The Wonder Years was never on Fox or any of its networks. It ran on ABC. It doesn't make sense that a deal between Fox and Netflix would result in The Wonder Years streaming through my PS3. Interestingly, though, Stephen King's: The Golden Years wasn't on Fox either; it was on CBS.
So maybe it wasn't a typo, but rather just a major error. One way or the other, it doesn't look like we're getting The Wonder Years. :-/

    ReplyDelete
  48. Tim-- based on several articles I've read, dating back to 2005, I'm pretty sure that Fox's Home Video division does own the redistribution rights for Wonder Years. In fact, several years back a Fox exec said they were working on getting WW to DVD, but there were some "obstacles" they needed to maneuver first. So it's plausible.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Netflix administrators have to be monitoring this discussion. Why don't they just clear things up for us?! Just say, "Be patient, it's coming", or "We're sorry, we made a huge mistake." It's that simple!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Saturnian BoromirApril 5, 2011 at 11:27 AM

Yeah, do they ever reply to these blogs?

I declare that if a Netflix employee does not reply to this blog with an explanation within 10 hours, it means that Wonder Years is not coming to Netflix and the reason is due to it was always a lie.

Do you hear this, Netflix? Your lack of reply will now become your reply!

Do you want to be regarded as rude? I should say not!

Please explain to us what is going on, for if 10 hours pass we will assume you have read this, chose not to respond, and thereby admitted Wonder Years is never, and WAS never coming to Netflix, and that you made everybody happy over a dastardly and sinful lie.

Please have kindness in your heart Netflix and respond within the 10 hour limit, even if the answer is sad, please have the decency to be truthful and pleasant with your lovely paying members.

10 HOURS...BEGIN!!!! Will Netflix respond, or will Netflix commit itself to lousy customer service!?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes, Space Boromir, YES!!

Everybody, spread the word online about The Ten Hour Ultimatum that Space Boromir has dealt to Netflix!!

Netflix has surely kept up to date on these posts and, utilizing foul manners, chose to ignore our agitation and concern.

Netflix you have stirred the hopeful hearts of Wonder Years fans, you lit a fire of love in our souls, and now you are dousing that fire out with your liquid spite. Your lack of answer to our queries is like an unholy fire extinguisher. If love & excitement were fire, Netflix customer service would be a fire reducing chemical used in the composition of fire extinguisher material.

Netflix if you have 1% concern for your subscribers who love Wonder Years, you must obey the 10 Hour Ultimatum, you must illuminate for us this situation, you must let us know IF Wonder Years is coming, WHEN it is if so, and WHY the delay!

Do not be cruel! Do not be cruel! Do not be cruel! I have loved Netflix, now must I be sorrowful over this ordeal?

You have read the posts, now reply!

TEN HOUR COUNTDOWN! In ten hours we will know if Netflix appreciates us, or of Netflix scorns us!

    ReplyDelete
  52. no one cares about glee, where's Wonder Years?!?

    ReplyDelete
  53. When will season 2 be streaming ??

    ReplyDelete
  54. Guardian of Arlon 3April 6, 2011 at 12:26 AM

    Ten Hours have passed.

Netflix has been confirmed to read these posts and not bother to answer.

We now know for 100% fact that Wonder Years is not coming to Netflix, and that it never was in the first place.

Why does Netflix lack the courage, decency, and tact to admit to us that they lied?

Netflix, in the words of Padme Amidala of Naboo, "You're breaking my heart!"

Oh, Wonder Years, I reckon I'll never get to view thee on Netflix. :( :( :(

    ReplyDelete
  55. Why do I even bother to get excited about these Wonder Year reports over and over again. It's too hard to handle, like Winnnie stringing Kevin along for all those years. Although I can barely remember because it's been years since I've been able to watch the Wonder Years!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. There's a discussion on the Netflix Facebook page about this and Netflix says on there to stay tuned as new content will be added throughout the month. They don't speak to the Wonder Years specifically but its in a discussion specifically about the wonder years. Wouldn't give up hope yet.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Netflix, can you someday make it so that I can buy the rights to stream a movie whenever I want?

There are lots of movies that aren't available to stream, but wouldn't it be possible to buy the rights to stream stuff that isn't normally available???

    Please?!

    Ha ha ha ha!

LOL at Trevor! LOL at Trevor! LOL at Trevor!

Trevor, ha ha ha, Trevor = Clueless About Netflix!

Trevor you're too ridiculous...omg! Thanks for the highlight of the week, I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. WOW! Going to email your post to all my friends, can't even believe this omg hahaha ha LOL! So lol...

    ReplyDelete
  59. WHERE'S WONDER YEARS!?!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Im just as excited as you guys but you desperately need to chill out. Wonder years has only been in syndication since it aired. No other formats. It might take a while to get us the best possible picture and sound. And guess what? Even if it didn't make it to streaming it wouldn't be the end of the world. Wonder years or Netflix availability should not be determining the quality of your day

And to the guy mocking the fellow asking Netflix a question, get a life. Step outside and enjoy some fresh air.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Amen to that. Excited as I am about the possibility of being able to watch "The Wonder Years" again, I've got other things in my life that I enjoy. As for ripping into someone's innocent blog question, seriously man, you are a jerk and need to get a life. If you and your friends are hanging around reading the Netflix blog, you've got to find something better to do. I can give you a few suggestions.

    ReplyDelete
  62. So when are we getting stream ability of the tudors, queer as folk, true blood? When are we going to be able to stream via smart phones like Evo? Would be nice to use my phones hdmi out ability more ... Can do everything else but stream netflix, come on now ... Stocks continue to rise, you raised the monthly fee a few months back, where it's my extra $ going? Give us what we want, and give us the ability TO ADD TO OUR DVD QUEUE MOVIES THAT SHOW UP AS DVD ONLY ON THE PLAYSTATION 3!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. So now it says "choose discs" under The Wonder Years and the image has changed. That's an improvement. Looks like streaming might be on it's way!

    ReplyDelete
  64. So Canada is not going to get these shows on Netflix? If that's the case.... Go Fuck Yourself Ted from Netflix. I guess I can now cancel Netflix and save myself 8 bucks. I guess that's why the Netflix selection sucks... It's because I'm Canadian. Bye Cunt Nugget.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow, I could have done without that diarrhea of the mouth. Somebody loves their TV a little too much.

Canada is an Empire of Sin.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Why in the hell did you make it so that our ratings apply to every season of a television show???? That is so stupid. Some seasons are five star seasons and some are two star seasons! Go back to letting us rate individual seasons in a series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. What in the world happened to 24. It was on instant watch for a long time, now it is now where to be found? I can't even rent the discs... ???

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yet you don't have seasons 3 or 4 of True Blood?!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I finished it already... Gimmie season 2!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Every movie I search for is DVD only, its getting very old.

    ReplyDelete
  72. why do you guys only put one season of a show to stream when there are additional seasons that are available? You should also try to update your lists and make things accesible on streaming.

    ReplyDelete
  73. FIX THE iPAD and MOBILE APPS- THey're Awful now. Totally ruined them with the last update. Useless. Can't manage account, view DVD queue, change queue. Worst update ever. Whoever stripped away all functionality of your mobile apps needs to be canned ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  74. It would be great if this particular item wasn't so slow!!! Haven't had problems with some of Netflix's older shows, but some of their newer shows are showing decreased performance. I hope this gets resolved soon!

    ReplyDelete
  75. NetFlix won't let me cancel my account without agreeing that I "agree to the terms of cancellation"

However they don't list any "terms"
and certainly don't link to any "terms of cancellation".
    :/
I wonder if Netflix summarily agrees to 'terms' not in evidence when they are canceling some business arrangement. I realize this isn't the place for this but there doesn't seem to be a place. Oh well, I guess Con artists and thieves rarely give their victims a chance to easily respond.

    ReplyDelete
  76. How about Boy Meets World? I would love to be able to watch that instantly.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Love it! Thanks. The technology has seriously advanced lately. I'm streaming your show via wireless to the blueray player. The image is pretty darn good too on the 52" LCD, plus the surround sound makes me say good bye video stores and late fees and even good by movie theaters.

You guys should offer new releases with a fee attached for viewing like CinemaNow does.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I've been watching "24" for a while now. Suddenly I've noticed that all the episodes from all the seasons have been added serially under one title. Bad idea! Now I have no clue which Season/Episode I'm watching and how far I am in completing a Season. You guys need to stop fixing something that's not broken. I'm thinking about canceling my subscription to Netflix and just checkout the "24" DVDs from my local library.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Your selection of movies and tv series available in Canada sucks. I'm cancelling my account at the end of the month!

    ReplyDelete
  82. What about in Canada?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Next show to add on Netflix instant-Criminal Minds! Right now I'm using a free trial but I would def. sign up if that show, all seasons, was available.

    ReplyDelete
  84. LOVE THE GLEEE!!! MORE GLEE PLEASE!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. as usual Canada gets the short end of the proverbial stick, um we are paying too.........

    ReplyDelete
  86. Echo the "build up the 'watch instantly' dbase. Several movies & series we'd like to see are only available via DVD, but increase in prices for that plan suggests that Netflix wants to move away from DVDs.

    ReplyDelete
  87. When can we stream the Second Season of Glee episodes currently available elsewhere?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Can we please get some VAMPIRE DIARIES?!

    ReplyDelete
  89. So, Canadians can be grumpy too, eh?! I'm actually kinda relieved, having always thought of you guys as North America's version of perennially mellow Scandinavians making us bratty Yanks look bad by comparison!

But I'm sure that "Create sucky Canadian version" wasn't Reed Hastings' mission statement when he green-lighted the project, and will be as anxious to build-up inventory -- and thus subscriptions -- as you are to watch it. And if it's any consolation, our choices sucked too for a couple of years as NF, being just the middle man, hammered-out streaming contracts with the tangled web of 'content providers' -- all of which (the contracts) apparently have to be renegotiated for Canada -- but now there aren't enough hours in the week to watch everything that I and my family want to (a whole other negotiation problem, be warned!), so hang in there!

  93. Season 3 of Glee is airing in the U.S. now...why isn't season 2 available to watch yet? I was left hanging waiting for the seasons of The Tudors until the show was done running for the season..Please add season 2 of Glee & season 3 when their done airing!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Very frustrating to seek a film that is not available on streaming queue. Only the first LOTR?? Excuse me? Very frustrating. Please, please add to the streaming queue more robustly. I'm waiting.

  95. I Love Glee, I can't wait for Season 2 to be on Netflix....Netflix need to add Golden Girls too

  96. Thanks again for nothing. Another frustrated Canadian. And by the way - why bother with a comment section when you have no intention of responding to comments.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Wish you had a link that was just for tv programs on Netflix, especially the ones that are "watch instantly". And I wish you had a place to request favorite tv programs to be added to watch instantly.

  100. This would be great if it actually worked. I keep getting the error code 2105 to install silverlight after I've installed it 5 times. And uninstalled it and restarted the computer. It worked once and now that I want to watch instantly again, it says error 2105...again. My love for netflix is dwindling. I have a mac, is this a problem for pcs as well?

    ReplyDelete
  101. I am still waiting on The Wonder Years to finally be available for streaming. What is the hold up?!? I need my fix of Kevin and Winnie ASAP. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  102. Netflix, you people need to deliver the goods. What's the point of telling the world that you'll be streaming The Wonder Years if you're not going to do so? This is unacceptable. OK, so you've released all of the other FOX content mentioned in the press releases and blog, so where is The Wonder Years? Clearly there's a huge demand for it, stirred by the official Netflix statements claiming it will be streaming here, so how about retracting the statement or giving us a freaking release date?

  108. LOVE GLEE! Thanks for putting up season 1 but I noticed once again that you have the information wrong on the show. You are listing season 3 as coming soon, but it isn't season three that is getting ready to be released. It's season 2 volume 2 which is the last 3 discs of season 2. Season 3 won't start until fall of 2011. I've notice other such issues on movies and tv shows. Is there a way to submit these errors?

  114. I called Netflix today and gave them some feedback about the new site. 1.) There are not titles and the titles on the cover art is always in different fonts, locations and occasionally not on the cover. 2.) The scrolling is jerky and there is no way to slow it down or speed it up. 3.) Star ratings are only visible with mouse over cover art. 4.) It is now harder to add an item to my queue to watch later or on a different device. 5.) Sortable search is missing, there is no way to organize titles by ratings, year released or alphabetically. 6.) The changes were made without any instructions on how to use the new lay.out. The help feature still features the old layout for instructions. 7.) For an internet company, Neflix does not have an online feature for leaving feedback. 8.) The blog is full at 5000 comments with people putting additional comments on the MTV announcement blog. 9.) There has been no public statement from Netflix acknowledging the customer unrest. 10.) My previously viewed titles are no longer present. I like watching tv and it was easy to pick back up on the next episode by the previously viewed titles 11.) When I place my account on hold or choose to cancel Netflix does not ask me for a reason to improve there customer service. i.e. I am going on vacation, I am unhappy with selection, I am unhappy with features, I will not have time for viewing. etc... Instead there is no option to gain insight from their customers unless they choose to call a 18-- number which is not required when you have a web presence with the ability to collect the data. 12.) At the end of my phone call I am asked to take a survey of 1 question. Are you satisfied with Netflix? Press 3 for yes and Press 4 for no. This does not give any useful information. It does not collect why I am dissatisfied or what features I do like. So to sum things up, if after my account has been on hold the maximum and the website is not given the functionality back that the old site has I will be cancelling my service and trying Hulu Plus.

  115. Who cares about new content when NetFlix has screwed up their browser interface so bad that no one wants to use them for their movies anymore.

The original blog Netflix started announcing their "new and improved interface" was flooded with so many complaints that they closed it to new posts (hence why I am posting here). Fire whoever programmed this interface - HORRIBLE!!!!!!

COPY AND REPOST THIS TO ALL BLOGS UNTIL THEY FIX THIS AWFUL "BROWSER IMPROVEMENT" (LOL)

  118. well one improvement I feel that could be made for example 1 do a recount on the total number of instant streaming episodes some episodes on emergency or roseanne say are available on dvd to discontinue dvd delivery would be a mistake and in short make more episodes available instantly then no recount of episodes would be need to better reflect on the number of actual episodes available instantly

  119. Eleven weeks and still no Wonder Years. That and worsening every other interface on a continual basis shows how much you really care about the customer. You guys keep dropping the ball and the bar to a new low without giving care about a cent of your $250 stock price. Reed should be disappointed, but, you know, he's not.
