Netflix on Google TV

Hi all – this is Rich Ezekiel, director of partnerships, from the Netflix team.

Netflix continues to add devices on which you can instantly watch movies and TV shows. Today we’re happy to say Netflix will be on Google TV devices that will be available later this month. Here’s Google’s announcement about it:
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/here-comes-google-tv.html

We’ll continue to work hard to maximize the flexibility for how, where, and when you want to instantly watch TV shows and movies streamed from Netflix.

Enjoy!

  1. Google TV runs on Android. Does this mean we'll see an android phone app soon?

    Thanks!

  2. One suggestion I have for Instant Viewing being more user friendly (and I'm sure you have to have heard this before) is allowing/creating FOLDERS for the movies in my Instant Queue. It is very frustrating--and time consuming--having to scroll through all the movies. Our family has a collection of exercise videos that stay on there, as well as a collection of videos that my children like or put in the queue... so when my husband and I want to watch a movie it takes forever to get to our options. It couldn't be that hard to allow us to categorize the movies in the queue (or have it happen automatically by genre).

It is also very frustrating to be part-way through something (in this case Lost: Season 3) only to find that all of a sudden it is not available to Watch Instantly any more?!!!

  4. Any idea when a Netflix Android App with streaming capabilities will be made available to the public? or is no Android app planned for development?

  5. How the heck can I request Corner Gas: Season 5 & 6? I know they are out on DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Why do some shows/movies appear as available for instant streaming then disappear suddenly and become only available in DVD format?

    ReplyDelete
  7. As someone who is contemplating moving to an Android phone, I'm also curious if Netflix for Android will be arriving any time soon.

  8. Nice guys. Keep up the great work!

  9. When will I be able to suggest a movie that isn't listed? I've been waiting for Cabin by the lake & Return to cabin by the lake for YEARS. It was a big movie and released in 2000 so what's the hold up?

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0199389/

I'm also still pissed about the friends feature and since I canceled my subscription I'm going to bitch until both of these things happen. Fuck you netflix

    ReplyDelete
  10. why cant i watch every movie instantly?i dont want to wait for the dvd, and i pay the same price for dvd and instant.its dumb that i cant watch anything at any time.change it or ill cancel my account.

  11. In addition to the folders idea, also allow profiles to have instant queues not just DVD queues.

    ReplyDelete
  12. please bring back the friends feature

    ReplyDelete
  13. Netflix, Why did you remove the Friend's feature? Way to piss off your loyal customers that contribute.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I do not care one whit about this. Another thing to buy? Whoopee.

Since you removed the "friends" feature, I think your support and understanding of actual customer needs is near zero and getting worse. Netflix isn't my priority any more since "Friends" is gone.

  15. Has any of the Netflix Engineers ever used Yahoo! Mail or Gmail?

They allow personalization of the site itself.
    ===========
    For example:

In Yahoo you can switch to Classic Version if you don't like the New Version.

    In Gmail:

Option 1: Switch to "Older Version"

Option 2: Switch to "Basic HTML Version"

Option 3: Add more Features to Gmail by selecting stuff you want from Labs (lots of features that can be enabled on demand) (you can add Calender, Docs etc)

Option 4: Get your own Theme (changes background color) (or keep it at Classic Version)

Option 5: Turn on or off Web clips

    ===========
Since Netflix is so into "Personalization" for example their innovation into the field of personalized recommendations etc., I think its about time, Netflix gave users more options to Customize the site.

    For example:

    1. Some Users don't want to see Netflix's Prediction, fine then let them turn it off.

    2. Some Users want to give half star ratings (like 3.5), fine then let them turn it on.

    3. Some Users want to turn of Taste Preferences (since you can't clear them like you could earlier with Genres), fine let them turn it off.

    4. Some Users want more recommendations like it was earlier, fine let them turn on the feature: "More Recommendation less accuracy"

    5. (The biggest issue right now) Some Users want the Older look of the Movie Pages with all the Friend Features, fine let them switch to "Older Version".

AND THERE WAS NO NEED TO SHUT DOWN the Community Page (as done on Labor Day Weekend). It did not interfere with other portions of your site!

The list could go on and on....

Netflix's website has NO Personalization of how the USER WANTS to view the Website i.e. friends/community features etc.

  16. WHY CAN'T I EMAIL CUSTOMER SERVICE?!

I have been having problem after problem lately AND I CAN'T EMAIL ANYONE ABOUT IT.

    FUCK NETFLIX

  17. Seriously from my DVDs arriving in torn sleeves and having NO WAY to complain except report the DVD unplayable in order to get a new sleeve to mail it back in - to my DVDs coming cracked in two and then Netflix refusing to ship me a replacement?

    WHAT IS GOING ON?!

I am cancelling my account next week when my billing cycle finishes SOLELY due to customer service not having email. I WILL NOT DO BUSINESS WITH A COMPANY I CANNOT CONTACT. I will not spend my time waiting on hold on the phone.

    FUCK YOU LOSERS.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You guys are nuts... It's $9/month. What the h*ll do you expect?!?!??!?!?!? Somebody to come blow you after the movie?

$9. Per month. Unlimited movies. Instantly. No need to drive anywhere.

    $9.

And you're bitching and complaining about G*d knows what... The hell with all of you! Go with the competition... Oh, wait... That's much more money...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can you please charge me more so I can get some decent selections to watch in Canada? Really! I want to pay more! Just give me a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Is there any plans to add an update the netflix app for the ipod/iphone that will allow people to watch instant movies and tv via a compnent or composite A/V cable?

    Does Netflix even read this?
An email address would be nice.

  24. Gmail & Yahoo! Mail is FREE and they offer so much PERSONALIZATION like what the user wants.

Yes they put Ads on most of the pages, but so can you, for those users that want Friends etc.

That should pay for maintaining the friends features!

Since you are already dealing with Google (note Google TV) you can put Google Ads.

Or since you are already dealing with Amazon, you can put Buy from Amazon link and get 10% of DVD/BluRay sales, if people buy from you affiliate links.

    Use some business sense!

    ReplyDelete
  25. ok, were getting there, now just pull a slingbox and get the android app out....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Missing the Friends feature. Please bring it back.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree with all the others that are not happy the friends and community page is gone. It was fun checking out what everyone else was watching. I hate Facebook and I imagine others do too. Why can't we have both options?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Friends Features, you pieces of shit.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So.. we gonna get any word on the Friends features?

  30. Loving streaming Netflix through the Wii onto the TV for everyone to enjoy :) Great service, keep the content coming!

    ReplyDelete
  31. This isn't the place for it, but the point is, there IS no place.

Why is it that the one thing the "Contact Us" link on Netflix doesn't provide is a method of contacting Netflix?!

The "Contact Us" link leads one eventually to the "Your Account & Help" page, which only has places to get information on various standard general problems, and a link back to the "Contact Us" page. No category anywhere to just ask Netflix a specific question!

    ReplyDelete
  32. More variety of shows please!!! I would love to remain a customer with you, but your choices are so limited...I can get this stuff on itunes or at my video store. Please add more BBC shows like Inspector Rebus, your stock is so out of date.

  33. would be very nice to see a BlackBerry client.

  34. I am very frustrated with Netflix and it's service (or lack thereof) for deaf and hard of hearing customers.
    First:
After promising access to closed captions for years on instant access movies (which is currently available for FREE on Hulu) there are still no captions available. I know the website promises that captions will be available with a technology upgrade in 2010, but there are three more months to go and I haven't heard anything, have you?
    Second:
I would have liked to have posted my previous complaint directly to Netflix customer service in the form of a question ie "when will closed captions finally be available for streaming/instant movies?" However, the only way to get ahold of customer service is by phone-no IM chat with a customer service rep. available like most big corporations, no email, basically nothing except phone.
Is Netflix purposely trying to drive away deaf and hard of hearing customers? How insensitive can you get?
I'm planning to cancel my account as soon as I can....

  35. How about instead of spending all your time porting Netflix to every fucking gadget you come clean with the MS DRM bullshit and allow it to work with Ubuntu? You've managed to put Blockbuster into a coma, so go ahead and rest on your laurels until someone smart enough to realize that the Linux market is out there puts you to rest beside them.

  36. Really disappointed you cannot Instant Watch all the seasons of Lost!! WTF!!! I was in the middle of Season 4 and Netflix took it away. Unfortunately, i will be watching Netflix a lot less now, that was a nightly ritual.

I really think Netflix should just stop sending out DVDs all together. And just go 100% Instant watch. Netflix would save a hell of a lot of money not mailing / maintenance of DVDs. And all those problems of lost DVD mailers = NO MORE!

Lets face it, the DVD is going the way of the Dodo = EXTINCT! Waiting for a DVD in the mail is no longer exciting, it's kind of annoying - cuz i'd rather just Instant watch = Anticipation is no match for instant gratification.

We can use eBay, PayPal, and XBox Live is almost fully implemented in SA, so now we are awaiting Netflix. Please Netflix corporate, please work on some strategy to allow SA to make use of your service.

  39. I stopped my Netflix subscription because I now use a Ubuntu. When do you think Netflix will be available on Ubuntu? Thanks.

I do not want to be involved in the windows/mac/linux war but I just feel Netflix is not paying attention to me because I am a linux user.

  40. Oh... My... Gosh... The things people will complain about!

    * You don't support Ubuntu, I'm cancelling!

    * I can't watch Iron Man 2 on streaming - I don't want to receive the DVD! I'm cancelling!

    * You don't offer your service in Africa... I'm angry!!

    * You don't offer a movie from the year 2000 that I like. I'm cancelling!

    * You don't offer options for the hearing impaired! I'm cancelling! (I feel for you, but honestly, it's probably .001% of their viewership!)

Wow... I'm surprised that for $9, people can find so much to complain about! I realize these requests mean a lot to you, but you're all being incredibly demanding... so much hate, you'd think Netflix stole your baby or something!

  43. I would like to be able to see new netflix releases and when they were released. As it stands I can't get a really good sense of how often new content gets added to netflix. Is it daily, once a week or once a year? So far the lists don't appear to have changed much since I started the trial.

  44. LOVE Netflix and our Instant play via our Wii. I agree w/ Heidi's comment...w/ 3 generations in our household, it can take 30 mins to select an instant movie as-is today. Folders would be helpful in our Instant Queue.

I also have a suggestion that I am sure is in work. It would be helpful if a category of Holiday could be added with subfolders by holiday and audience. I was just trying to search for some Halloween titles for my 7-yr old and have given up...
Thanks for Netflix...and continuous improvements! I am always sharing my love for it as a working mother & busy family!

  45. Netflix is full of happy for me. :-)

Just thought you guys might appreciate a positive comment.

I pretty much only watch TV shows when the DVDs come out now, so it's perfect for me.

  46. Great on the google TV.

Can a company official take us through the reasons that items become unavailable. I was watching Lost. Why isn't it available anymore? Do you understand how this is a major bummer? I'm surprised that there is no explanation/apology on your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  47. We too just started Lost, right in the middle of season 1. Then it vanished. I put in a call and the kid just said something happened to seasons 1 - 4 and they were pulled. He didn't know what the issue was nor when it would be back online to stream.

You'd think Netflix would offer an explanation. This service kept us as subscribers.

  52. Hey Netflix, I'm REALLY upset with you!!! I've been telling everyone how awesome you are, since I've been watching the seasons of LOST on the Instant option. I'm somewhere mid-season 2 and go to watch an episode and all the seasons are gone except season 5!!! How can you take seasons off instant?? There was never an expiration date! Not cool... AND you don't even have a customer service email address for me to send you this comment! Lame...

  57. Netflix has not been adding any or very few new movies in the last 6 weeks and has failed to inform subscribers that they are getting ripped off. They should refund part of our subscription fees as the variety of movies has plummeted precipitously for instant.

  58. the increased availability of netflix is great, but SOMEBODY needs to address what appears to be serious deterioration in the quality of the streaming sound tracks

  59. HOW bout having a NOT RELEASED yet tab you know for movies that are still in the big box office yet? you know its hard to remember all the up and comming movies I want to see lol there are sooo many movies out there that are comming out and since I ONLY netflix it and dont watch normal tv I would like to know in advance and be able to read about movies that are up and comming or new releases I mean if its still in the theater couldnt ya atleast put it on netflix so i can cue up with one easy step instead of waiting for months to remember what movie I wanted to see and then by some off chance miss it all together!

  60. I'll add my voice to the missing LOST instant que - we too were having a nightly ritual, in the middle of S2...now gone over to Hulu to watch - Netflix look out.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I agree with Heidi -- having 4 seasons of "Lost" on instant watch & then yanking them back off so quickly was a major tease & annoyance.

We had gotten hooked but had only gotten a few episodes into Season 2 when it was no longer available.

I guess it's the public library for us.

I also concur on the need for better navigation/organization of IW queue using the Roku.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I can not believe you guys have no way to contact customer support by email. Who in this day and age does not offer email support?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I just want to say that I love the idea of streaming movies through my PS3 and the Wii but I am very upset at the fact that it only aplies to certain movies and not anything I want to watch. ie. New Releases. I think you guys should make all movies on your site available for streaming and maybe you would have a much larger customer base. It kind of makes me want to cancel my subscription. I am a very busy single mom and hate to do the Bloackbuster runs or by mail renting... It is much easier for me or my son to do the streaming but very disturbing I can't watch what I really want to.

  64. Sweet - another non-desktop Linux system to get Netflix.

So how about a desktop version?

    ReplyDelete
  65. I have a great suggestion for you people. If you have a twentyfour hour customer service then DO NOT DISCONNECT PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLING YOU! I purchased Netflix as my only means of TV and you Fricken Morons wont even answer your phone when my site has been down for FOUR HOURS!!!!. I will be telling everyone I see what worthless customer service you have and to get their viewing needs elsewhere!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Since the holidays are coming I would love to have an option to find "holiday" or "Christmas" movies without looking through every movie. Just a suggestion. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  67. This is the only spot I can find on your site where I can suggest a title that you don't have in your library... Patti Rocks - 1987 or 88, starring Chris Mulkey and Karen Landy. Could you look for this title and add it to your collection?

    Thanks!

  68. When does Netflix begin offering a proper selection of movies from, for example, this century?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Love the instant viewing via Wii, and have a question about availability of tv/movies. My teenager home sick from school was stuck in bed for days. He found your Legend of the Seeker Season 1 on instant viewing. After a day of watching, and getting 1/2 way through the season, Netflix moved it off instant watching. Now it's get them mailed or watch on Hulu. What's the deal? Why would you remove something from your already limited viewing availability?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I love Netflix, and the Watch Instantly feature has become a daily ritual for me.

But I must admit it is frustrating to watch a series that has been released on DVD for some time, like The Sopranos and Rome on HBO, and season three of The Tudors that hasn't been uploaded. But I will wait patiently. I just hope Watch Instantly will eventually apply to all of your titles. =)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Why is it that some older movies are listed but are not in your inventory? If they are not going to be available should not they be removed? An example is "A Bronx Tale" that has been on my Saved List for a very long time.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anyone else interested in "Attack of the Crab Monsters" - 1957? It is a really funny 1957 "B" rated Sci Fic? I root for the Crab Monsters.

  75. Steaming is not working today and it was not working yesterday. Today's message is something about the date 10/10/2010 being wrong on my computer. Yesterday was something else. 78. I LOVE Netflix! Your business model is brilliant. Your Service is perfect in every way. It is a pleasure to be a customer of a company which provides a service as advertised and flawlessly, reliably delivers. I am glad to find this site where I could comment.

In August I subscribed to Netflix (after purchasing an iPad). Within days I noticed our (Comcast) internet began to slow and over the last 2 months became unreliable to the point we could only connect half the time we tried. I have filed a complaint about Comcast with the FCC relating that we have thousands of $$$ in electronic equipment that is useless half of the time due to the connectivity problem. If I were Netflix I would bring one hella lawsuit against Comcast for interference with Netflix business and your growth as a company.

  79. Starz movies look terrible on your service. The motion is all messed up. It's ruining your brand!

  80. I have become very dissappointed in Netflix's New Releases. The movies added in weekly are becoming slimmer. Most movies added are quite old and there seems to be more and more problems with getting my movie every week. I have been a member for a long time and to me $12 month is a lot for 3 movies a month. I also know that you own the Redbox kiosk's and that seems to be where all the movies have gone. I doubt I will keep my membership much longer and will have to resort to some other means for movies. Shape up or I'm shipping out.

  81. I feel that it is the month of October and all the older horror flicks should be available for instant view. It is upsetting that they are not available, only through the mail. This would take too long to view. It would be nice if they were made available

  82. Does anyone at Netflix read these problems and try to fix them or at lease contact the sender? Or is this a wasted space to vent? Netflix MUST become more accommodating or risk going down!

  92. My family in the US has Netflix and they all love it. So, I was pretty excited to sign up when it came to Canada. So far I'm terribly disapointed. Where are the new releases? The movies are OLD. There are a couple that came out in 2009,but really, the offerings are pretty lame. Nothing like what we get on satellite. Are the offerings going to improve? Ye, "what do you expect for $7.99 a month." Well, something similar to what is advertised and to what is offered in the US. As is, I don't think we're going to hang on past the trial period UNLESS there is a drastic improvement in what is offered.

  96. I have no idea where to submit this suggestion, but when are you going to make it so that streaming TV episodes just automatically play the next one, like Hulu does? I love Netflix, and I love how much streaming you guys have, but if I didn't have to keep telling it to play the next episode, that'd be even better. (I often have Netflix playing when I'm doing projects, and the episodes always seem to end at the most inconvenient times.) Also, you should have some sort of suggestion box so I don't have to just post on a random blog topic.

I've been raving about netflix as well and watching movies on our wii is pretty much the only "date night" time my husband and I have. Now I'm stuck watching man vs wild all the time lol. Seriously why pull all seasons of Lost with out explanation? I also figured there would be a post of apology. What a mystery. I'll be checking out Hulu as someone else suggested.

  106. I've already cancelled my Netflix due to the lack of Closed Captioning for Netflix streaming.

Netflix better get their act together soon, because President Obama just signed a new communications law on October 8th that requires Internet videos (such as Netflix) to be captioned.

  107. So first question:
    1. Why is there no option on your Web site to send an email to Customer Support with a suggestion??? You want me to call someone??? Come on. http://www.netflix.com/ContactUs?lnkctr=ssCU&trkid=496625

    2. I travel frequently. On planes. In the sky. Without Internet connections. Your movie selection is much better than iTunes, particularly when it comes to foreign films. So when are you going to let us "rent" movies a la iTunes? Or even outright buy movies and download them?

I would appreciate a direct response. I'm on kristainlondon at gmail dot com

  108. For several years now Netflix has outmaneuvered Blockbuster in the market, until now. Blockbuster has a streaming video app for Android, but Netflix doesn't. Why? If we can't get an Android app soon I'm switching - they deliver videos too. At least give us an ETA.

  109. 1. My first language is English.

    2. I am not deaf.

    3. I watch all Movies & TV Shows with English Subtitles because:

    a. You simply cannot hear every word, so I often have to turn up the volume when I watch without subtitles.

    b. With subtitles I can concentrate more on the action and less on the spoken words (that sometimes might be whispers or God knows what).

    c. I'd rather focus on the action that on understanding every spoken word and because I got used to it.

    4. I can get subtitles for most of the "pirated" movies for free from http://www.podnapisi.net/ so now tell me why I should waste $$$ on Netflix since you Closed the Community Features (Friends)?

  110. I also would like to have more recent movies available,"on demand" seems to have them. But I can tell you I have enjoyed Netflix as I am not able to get out much. It has saved my life many times. Keep up the good work, and keep the latest movies coming.

  112. Hello, I want to just email Netflix but this blog seems to be the closest I can get to communicating with the netflix team. Let me first say I do love Netflix, I stream alot and my kids love it also. My concern is the price of adding Blu ray to my plan. I do understand that the disc are slightly higher in retail but not by that much. With the average cable bill already astronomical we do well to find the 9.00 a month for our netflix service. Now though that I have a projector I would like to be able to order blu ray disks. but 8 more dollars a month for what amounts to one disk or maybe two a month is way beyond common sense. I realize you were in the right to start it out that high when blu ray was a fledgling format but you are very much in the wrong now. Please review this policy, at the most the basic 8.99 membership should only be increased a couple of dollars in order to have bluray delivered instead of regular dvd. thank you. Scott

  114. 1. Come on people. netflix.com... How about mailing something to support@netflix.com? it's not that hard...
    2. The blockbuster app sucks. It actually requires the entire show download to the phone before it starts playing it. It is NOT a streaming app.
    3. Netflix is only allowed to stream shows for certain periods of time, and it pays out the rear for the right to do so. I was stuck by legend of the seeker this way, but if you keep an eye on the website's streaming queue, it always gives you at least a week's notice when a show won't be available any more.
    4. The "new" law signed was actually an amendment to an older one and only applies to television shows. There is a reason for this. Closed captioning is already required on television shows broadcast over the air, so the captioning already exists. Subtitles are not always available on movies.
    5. Netflix has been improving. the wii streaming no longer requires a disk, and pc streaming has went HD. Personally the only real issue i have with it is reporting a problem with a movie stream. Their selection is not comprehensive enough. The thumbnails on star slammer were for a completely different movie, and i had no way to report that.

    ReplyDelete
  115. @scott:
not sure where you got your data on pricing, but that's wrong. Blu-ray access is $2 a month. This would have been obvious if you looked at plan pricing.

  116. While adding all these devices and disc-free software - how about working on the reason your subscribers purchased these devices in the the first place. What is the purpose of being able to stream to the TV when most of what you want to watch can only be seen via DVD (through the mail). I'm sure you're heard and read this a million times, but since you still haven't heeded to what is being said, I will say it again - you NEED a better selection! I can't believe you have old movies on DVD, but they can't be streamed! At $24.99 a month I should be able to see anything Netflix has in its library from the comfort of my couch. THAT is the reason I bothered to get the streaming device in the first place. Seriously - you can do MUCH better with your selection. Ease up on the Reality TV shows and stream some real dramas like Criminal Minds and such. Seriously thinking about dropping my subscription down to the bare minimum considering you don't have much I want to see anyway.

  120. Netflix on GoogleTV looks horrid! Just as bad the Roku 1.0 interface. No browsing, only viewing titles in your queue, no management of your DVD queue. FIX IT!

Also, where is the 10 ft. UI for a Home Theater PC (HTPC)? Many of us have HTPCs and would rather not use Windows Media Center. Just make a good 10 ft. UI that can be controlled with a remote (ala Hulu Desktop) -- or at the very least open up the custom silverlight player that Microsoft uses in Windows Media Center for other non "Netflix Branded Partner" developers. You're killing the little guy! FIX IT, OR WE'LL LOSE INTEREST!

  122. The app on GoogleTV works great for playing items already in your instant queue. But why can't I use the app to browse the catalog and add items to the instant queue?

    ReplyDelete
  123. Why does the Netflix app only reveal a subset of my instant queue on Google TV? Is this a content licensing snag? Also, it sorely needs a search capability.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I must say i was highly disappointed with the netflix integration at start. Only being able to see whats in my instant que is not "Netflix on Google TV". Netflix needs an interface similar to what the PS3 and Wii now have. And being able to manage my DVD/Mail que would be a huge benefit, one that would possibly land me a second Google TV device.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Agree with what others have said...I was surprised to see that the Logitech Revue shipped with essentially the old Roku Netflix interface. I was hoping the Google Search would automatically search the content of what is available on Netflix once my account was connected.

Do we have any idea when this functionality might be coming? It seems like a no-brainer way to extend Netflix's usefulness on Google TV!

    ReplyDelete
  126. The Netflix app on Google TV is severely lacking. When is Netflix going to release an update to the Google TV app to add functions like search and additional categories other than JUST what is in the instaqnt ques? Even the Xbox Netflix version is better than this. This TV has the full internet on it and this app looks like it's made for an Atari. UPGRADE THE APP ASAp!!!

  139. I just received a Google TV/Logitech Revue about a week ago. I've been so happy with Netflix appearing on other devices with full functionality, and was expecting the same with Google TV. I was really disappointed to see that you only have access to your instant queue, and have to switch to Chrome to search and add things to the queue and then switch to the Netflix app to watch. I thought the point of Google TV was to bring everything together, but even though it's all on the same device, the experience couldn't be more separated. Are there plans to bring everything together into one fully-functional app or even bring the ability to search for movies to the Google TV search, so I only have to search for movies in one place?

Only complaint I have is most everything I want to see isnt available on instant streaming..If they would make everything available for instant streaming including all new releases I would gladly pay twenty dollars a month for the service..as it is right now ..im growing tired of it and about ready to cancel..It seems to me that it would be cheaper in the long run for them to go all instant streaming and do away with the mailings..but what do I know..nothing

    ReplyDelete
  149. 1. going instant only is actually netflix's long-term goal. Look at the fact they now have a streaming-only option.
    2. if you have a catalog of hundreds of thousands of movies/shows, how quickly do you think it will take for them to make them all streamable? Some of them they don't even have the legal right to do that with.
    3. You don't like the lack of a search feature on google tv? Guess what? The tivo version doesn't have it either. Neither does my blu-ray player, or the original wii release. the most important feature is the streaming, and they release the app as soon as that is ready. the rest hopefully comes later. Android is still waiting on streaming, and the latest word is it will be developed phone-by-phone! My Moment will never get it, unless someone hacks the apk.

  150. I have been using a Logitech Revue device to watch Netflix streaming content for some weeks now. I am happy with it. This past Sunday, November 28, my Comcast internet service went down. There was news about a general East Coast outage so I didnt' give it much thought. I could access the internet using my iPhone set to 3G. Monday it stayed down. Tuesday morning I called Comcast and they told me my "modem" was at the end of its life and I should replace it. Tuesday evening I went to a Comcast store and picked up a new modem. That solved my connection problem. However, when I attempted to watch streaming Netflix content, it look longer for the movie to load and then it halted several times and I had to wait while it reloaded. This happened with several titles. The programs were essentially not watchable. I read in the news about the issues between Neftlix, Comcast, and Level 3. I thought I should let you know. I'll keep trying to watch streaming content and hope that it returns to the quality I had last week.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I had exactly the same issue with AT&T DSL during the exact same period. I was also told to buy a new modem. Luckily I was told by Netflix over the phone that the problem was on their end, and they reset the device ID. All I had to to do was wait a few hours, then register the device again (Sony Internet TV) and now the instant streaming is working again.

  154. For $19 a month, I was receiving movies that were damaged, and movies consistently took 2-3 or 4 days to reach me. I finally had enough of this, and called to cancel Friday when the movies that should have arrived Tuesday never arrived. They still haven't come.

I'm now paying exactly $2 more per month for the same service from Blockbuster, and so far they've been prompt. Plus, I can return movies to the store on a Saturday and pick up something to watch that night.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Was finally about to take the plunge and signup for Netflix account. Mainly interested in streaming option. To my shock and dismay, Netflix streaming appears to be a Windows-specific offering. That's a TOTAL DEAL BREAKER. (I occassionally use MS Silverstream on a spare Win7 laptop for NCAA March Madness -- the technology ain't so great as to justify OS vendor lock-in on my other machines.)
I'm yet another potential Netflix customer who switched to Ubuntu and now must bail on the prospect of a Netflix account. I live opposite Netflix campus, right across Vasona Park. Hey Reed, wakeup dude! Us non-Windows folks are everywhere -- even in your own back yard!

    ReplyDelete
  156. If you are ignorant enough NOT to know that there are better, more efficient and legally FREE OS out there other than Winblows, you are just being blind to what it is coming. This goes for both Netflix and it's consumers. You DO NOT want to ignore the linux community. We are growing bigger and better every day. Entire nations (and I don't mean just their people but their governments) are switching to linux because of how much better it is compared to any of the MS BS that is out there. The folders ideas sounds good too. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  157. I'm sure you've heard them all, but here's another +1 vote for each of these:

Please, someday, find a way to make Netflix available for Ubuntu users. Why should we keep our membership if we can't watch anything?

And folders would be great. XP Just give us folders we can name and organize ourselves. Maybe/Possibly a way to organize our DVD cue as well. The man and I share one Netflix. I am paying for two DVD's out at a time, and with two lists at a time... couldn't Netflix just take the top movie from each list? : /

Otherwise, Netflix is absolutely amazing. I'm really REALLY lucky my boyfriend lets me use his laptop every night to watch stuff. Four computers, and his is the only one that isn't Ubuntu. I know several people who'd like membership, but aren't going to join because there's no way to watch Instantly on their computers.

Netflix = Kickass. But please don't give up on us Ubuntu users.

  158. Anyone else having major problems with the new version of the netflix app on their logitech revue? Most of the time I get the "cannot connect to netflix" message "try again". Sometimes I just get a black screen for ten minutes. When I can connect, my queue takes forever to load, then if it actually does load, I have to try playing a video 5-10 times to get it to work. And if I am very very lucky, the video will play all the way through without either (a) randomly returning to the video page in my queue or (b) forcd closing the netflix app, at which point I have to start the entire process all over again. Honestly I would be much happier if I could go back to the queue only version, the problems were significantly less frequent!
