Josh Brolin and Netflix Launch Film Competition

Chris Garrity from Netflix communications here, writing to let you know about a national search for the next great independent film-maker that we launched last Thursday. The “Netflix FIND Your Voice Film Competition” will award one aspiring filmmaker the means, guidance and resources to make a full length, narrative film. Actor and director Josh Brolin will serve as Honorary Chair and panel judge. The winner’s film will be given a $350,000 prize package and distribution online at Netflix. Netflix will instantly stream directly to LG Electronics HDTVs

LG Electronics and Netflix have announced the first broadband-enabled HDTVs with Netflix streaming software embedded directly in the TV, requiring no external device. LG's new LCD and plasma "Broadband HDTVs" will display the library of movies & TV episodes that Netflix members can watch instantly directly on the TV with Ethernet connectivity.

The new broadband HDTVs will be available for sale this spring. LG will demonstrate the HDTVs this week at the 2009 CES show in Las Vegas. In addition to the HDTVs, LG Electronics announced plans to release five new models of Blu-ray Disc players and home theater systems that can stream movies & TV episodes from Netflix.

Netflix is still #1

Hello, Steve Swasey, VP of corporate communications, here with an update about customer satisfaction at Netflix. Twice annually the independent research firm ForeSee Results surveys customer satisfaction with ecommerce sites. When ForeSee Results posted its findings for the 2008 holiday season this week, Netflix remained #1 for the eighth consecutive survey since 2005. This time Netflix shares the #1 spot with another great online retailer, Amazon.com. We will continue to work diligently in 2009 to keep giving you the best online movie rental experience possible. Roku player adds streaming in HD resolution

Roku has released a firmware update for the Netflix Player by Roku, adding support for streaming of high definition (HD) content. The free firmware update was first made available on December 22, and all Roku players will automatically receive the update over their network connections during the coming weeks. With this update, all five Netflix ready devices available on the market today support streaming of movies & TV episodes from Netflix in HD resolution.
