Are there any online demos of what the interface will look like?

Still waiting for Wii...!

Anonymous said...

I got my email today... Will be in the Mailbox tomorrow.. I can not wait!

Anonymous said...

Cooooooool !!!

Anonymous said...

Does this mean that streaming Netflix will be available on the Internet enabled Sony Bravia TVs at the same time?

Anonymous said...

I didn't get an e-mail. That's lame!

Anonymous said...

What do you have to tune? Just send the disks. Not only is it bad enough that one of my movies was lost, but now I have to wait several more weeks than everybody else?

Anonymous said...

Will this work for any BD Live compatible BluRay player or just the PS3?

Agner said...

Amy,
IF you want to stream to your wii now, you can use the playon software ( http://www.themediamall.com/playon ). I've been using it to stream netflix to my sons wii for the past 6 months without trouble.

This is excellent news. Can't wait!

Hey, that's great...

Now how about fixing the Silverlight problem you and Microsoft created a year ago.

Anonymous said...

I like how there's an ad now for the 360 in my Netflix emails telling what's been shipped and received. Just what I need, an ad to buy the product meant to fix the problem caused by another product of the same company. That is... Did Microsoft Silverlight ruin streaming on your Microsoft PC? Just buy a Microsoft 360 and pay Microsoft $50 a year and watch movies on your TV.

Netflix blu-ray disc works great. Just pop it in the PS3, activate and you're ready to go!!! All of the functionality of the xbox 360 version of netflix is also there. You can add movies to your list, read the descriptions, etc. Thanks Netflix!!

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the tip Agner. I will try it out!

Anonymous said...

This is a good feature, you can share with friends and watch the same movie at the same time, smiles together on PS3.

StarSmiles said...

I like the movie Share feature through Netflix use through xbox. I dont order as many disk movies but the splendid choices in movies to watch is everending. It also lessens the use of gaming time spent on things blowing up and heros cheering, a pluss for Mom's. smiles.

Anonymous said...

This is BS, why are you leaving so many people out in the cold? Please ship the rest of the disks soon! Am I the only one who is annoyed and outraged?

Anonymous said...

Should Be here today!!! and this is for ps3 only! if it was for any networked bluray player they would say that besides if you wanted that feature why would you not buy one of the 3 players that already has it?

I got mine today. While I'd rather just installed an app from PSN, the experience is very cool, worked great, and using a disk isn't really that big a deal.
I've used PlayOn in the past and this seems to work better.
Nice work Netflix!

Got mine today, seems 'alright'. Not as robust as watching on my computer - little hiccup here and there at times. I'm chalking that up to the streaming from wifi to the PS3 - even though other computers in the house are on wifi.

When I say hiccup, it has an odd half second stutter every so often. In picture, sound seems fine, though each hiccup gives a slight delay. I'm sure this will improve later, especially since I'm sure the servers on Netflix side of things are being hit hard by the new influx on bandwidth.

I got my disc today and had to update my PS3 before it would work. Once the PS3 updated the Netflix disk worked great. Unfortunately the streaming quality does not seem to be as good at the ROKU player... When compared against each other the PS3 video is more jerky and not as clear. Currently ROKU is better at streaming than PS3.

Just got my disc! Netflix thanks for supporting the PS3. Just tried/tested a few shows and movies and the picture quality and bitrate is amazing. I like the menus too, but it would definitely help to allow some customization in the future. Anyways, my wife and I already planned a nice weekend of movie nights. Keep the good job and thanks again for supporting the PS3!!!

ShadowBoricua said...

I saw someone commenting on the streaming quality. Mine is amazing... I get up to 4.0 MBps bitrate and framerate is constant, just like a blu-ray. Of course, I will keep my BD movies coming but it is nice to have streaming for those nights that I am waiting for the next one. I think if you have bad streaming quality, you have to look into the connection. I have a Sony Bravia 42" and it the quality is great, as I mentioned earlier.

Well, I got my PS3 disc a little bit ago, and so far its pretty cool...except there's one title that just will NOT stream no matter what I do. Doctor Who: The Ribos Operation. Every other Dr Who ep I've tried to stream works, but this one just kicks me mack to the information screen every time. Streams fine on my laptop, but not the PS3. And I can't find ANYplace on the Netflix website to email customer support directly. Grr.

I got my PS3 Disc and have been watching movies all afternoon! They look and sound GREAT!! GO NETFLIX!! If you guys sold Netflix t-shirts I'd buy 2....this is the best deal out there in todays economy. Thank you from a disabled cancer survivor..:)

Any plans on letting us PC users use a video player that supports v-sync anytime in the future?

David said...

Anyone have issues with it not loading at all? Seems that my disc is bad. I put it in, it made some weird sounds, took it out, reput it in. Made sounds again. Update ps3 to newest version. Put in, not making sounds, just not loading anything at all. Don't see disc in any menu. No auto load/start up came up. Any ideas?

Works Great!...hd movies are great looking...Wish there were more in hd format but that should come in the future. Looks way better than play-on. So worth the money for netflix!

Disc works great! Nice interface, and finally HD streaming. Picture quality is great and much improved over PlayOn. Kudos Netflix!

How do I turn subtitles when watching movies instantly?

Matt Hargett said...

I tried to watch Zack Galifinakis Live at the Purple Onion, but it only comes through in SD, even though it's marked HD. Everything else marked HD come through great, peaking @ 4.4mbit/sec. Any ideas?

Every BD-Live streaming trailer I've ever watched used DTS 2.0 @ 256kbit/sec; it would be great if Netflix did the same. The Dolby Digital @ 128kbit/sec sounds incrediby processed and flat.

It would be nice if each category defaulted to my suggested movies, or popular for my ZIP code, rather than the seemingly random list currently displayed.

Overall, a great first effort. Keep up the great work!

Matt Hargett said...

Also, none of the content renders in 24fps on my Panasonic Viera (TC-P50V10), and the 3:2 pulldown doesn't kick in either. Tried movies I own on bluray that DO render properly, still no luck.

Any ideas?

No Sound on CSI Season 9 from PS3. It is fine on 360. WTF?

Anonymous said...

That's great that you can watch instantly on the PS3, the only problem is your selection of available movies is horrible!!! Why can't you put new releases or at least popular movies on the watch instantly list. They are all B rated movies at best. Most of which I never even heard of! Is this going to continue or are you planning to play new releases instantly?

Got my Netflix Disk today and the website Netflix.com/PS3 link redirects and doesn't work so there is no way for me to activate the disk. Pretty disapointing.

I just got my disk and I tried to watch 2 movies. It takes forever to retrieve the movie, And once it's playing, it stops every 7 min. to retrieve again. This takes another 7 min. Is this a bug?

Seems to work fine. The HD movies look pretty good.. I'm impressed. And I don't mind the disc at all. In fact, I think I prefer it. An app would take up more drive space on my PS3... which I can use for playable demos :P (I know.. I can buy a bigger drive.. but why spend the money? We're in a recession!) To me, it's basically one disc with access to 10,000 movies and shows. They might not all be good, but I'm not that out of shape that I can't get up and replace a disc in the drive! Get up off your ass!

The new change where you don't show how other people rated films really sucks. Huge loss in value. Already it was a pain that you made me mouse over the damn movie to see what the ratings were, since you're so busy showing me your dumb algorithmic rating, but now you're not even showing it?!??

Also: Way to go making it impossible to get written feedback anywhere in your entire help and contact us section. That stingy with employment for customer service?! LOL.

Anonymous said...

I was just thinking I'd like to watch something on instant viewing, and then I remembered I had to use Silverlight. Fuck it, I'm going to Hulu.

Anonymous said...

Tip: As I eventually found sifting through the Help FAQs, a simultaneous connection is required with both your PC and PS3 (i.e. a router) to activate the disc. I don't have one, I just swap cables and reset my modem when needed, so it wouldn't activate. Luckily, telephone support was quick, pleasant, and successful in activating my account. Although, you can add me to the list of people who find it odd, if not inconceivable, that there is no link to e-mail or instant message customer support. At least, not that I could find.

Anonymous said...

I don't now what people are complaining about. I was just watching a movie online, full screen on a 24" monitor and it looked great. There wasn't any video tearing or anything like that. I... oh... wait a second... that's right, I was watching at Hulu.com where they use Adobe. The fact that it didn't look like shit should have told me it wasn't Silverlight.

Anonymous said...

This was the link they used to have.

Requests and Suggestions

http://www.netflix.com/Suggest?type=2&lnkctr=cu_suggest

Once they started using Silverlight, they took it off their website (I guess they got sick of hearing paying customers complaining about how shitty streaming was because of Silverlight). Someone found the link and posted it here. Within 2 weeks, Netflix killed it.

Get it through your heads people. Netflix doesn't give a rats ass about it's customers anymore. We mattered when they were just starting up, but now that Reed Hastings is on the Microsoft board of directors, do you really think he, or his company, gives a shit about you?

Received my disc Friday and it works great....no problems at all. Hi,

can you tell us a little bit more about the technical solution for PS3? Especially, how do your de-crypt the Windows DRM10 files on PS3 which does afaik not natively support this kind of DRM.

Thx,
reeen

I got my streaming disc on Friday and the setup was really simple. Watched a TV show and one movie that evening. The next day I put in the disc and launched it, nothing happened for a while...just the red netflix logo on the screen. I rebooted my PS3 and then after that I got disc read errors on the disc and my other blurays! Essentially my blu-ray player on the PS3 died. My PS3 is only 1 week old! I ended up going back to the store and getting another PS3...i'm wary now of putting in those Netflix discs now. Anybody else had the same problem?

Ok well i have both the 360 and PS3 and i don't know if im just doing something wrong in my settings ,but the quality of the Movie on my PS3 isn't as good as the Xbox... The same movie in the Xbox looks great in the PS3 it looks bad... Both are wired to home network. Any idea's i would rather use the PS3 if i could help it.
Thanks.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't surprise me that the same movie looks better on the 360. Remember, Reed Hastings is on the Microsoft Board of Directors, and I believe someone from Microsoft is on the Netflix Board Of Directors. They only brought streaming to the PS3 just to say they did. They probably won't put any more effort into improving it than they have tried to fix streaming to the PC since they ruined it with Silverlight a year ago.

Anonymous said...

Why did we receive a Netflix PS3 disc in Puerto Rico, if you don't allow us to watch streaming here? Is this going to change in the near future?

Also, please bring the Watchmen Ultimate Cut to Netflix on DVD.

Got the disc. Works great! The first couple times I watched stuff it got stuck retrieving in the middle of viewing, but I haven't noticed that since the first day (maybe that's the tuning they wanted to do before everyone got it and complained about it). I've actually noticed the picture quality looks much better than what I get streaming on my Mac. Great job Netflix!

For all those griping about not getting it soon enough, etc., isn't it better that Netflix gets slammed with angry comments from only 100,000 people about slowness, bugs, etc. and then deliver a polished final version to everyone rather than deliver it to everyone, perhaps overload their servers, and definitely got a lot more complaints immediately?

Of course I'd like a disc-less, higher quality, less interruptions, better interface (with search feature) version. And I definitely wish support would be added for instant watching across multiple profiles. But I am way happier watching instantly on my TV as it is then not having it at all.

Anonymous said...

Your website is so unfriendly it is crazy.
You need a place for comments-as if you realy cared. I would like to have your site where we have our list of movies prompt me when I order a movie that I have already watched-to inform me and ask if I wanted it again. This would be helpful. Also a prompt if it is in word instead of talking-that makes me want to throw the movie across the room.
IF I mail from Weston, Fl instead of my house in Hollywood, Fl I get the movie much quicker.

It works great, you folks really put effort into making Netflix on the PS3 look and respond well.

The PS3 version even has one up on the Xbox 360 software, in that us PS3 owners can actually browse the streaming catalog, not just our instant queue.

I've watched more online streaming in the past week than I have in the last month!

I'm looking forward to the widescreen playback support update already. :)

Guys... it looks almost exactly like the Roku. That library interface is horrible! The horizontal scrolling... we never use netflix because it's so slow to find the shows we want in our queue. Please, please - a grid, something - take a cue from AppleTV or Boxee, make it an enjoyable experience not only to watch, but to find your entertainment. That Roku interface has been the reason it's sat idle, the reason I barely use your service anymore.

Anonymous said...

What? You can't remember which movies you watch, so you're mad at Netflix. You do realize that a movie disappears from your queue when it's shipped to you, right? It's your fault if you add it again.

I was watching instantly on my ps3 right now when my program stopped and a box came up that said my ps3 had been deactivated!!!! I have been trying to re-activate it (as it keeps giving me new codes), but so far no luck.

This is TERRIBLE for me. after I loaded the disc, it took nearly 15 minutes to "retrive/buffer" played for 5 minutes, now has been buffering for at least 20 minutes. I run 10 mb internet in the house and no other computer is on using the bandwith. Anyone else?

I also have the downloading for 15 minutes, playing for 8 and then back to downloading issue. Is this a bandwidth issue or something else? Can I increase buffer size somewhere on PS3 setup?

thanks,

I got the disc a few days ago..activated my PS3 and was watching videos with no problems....until to night. I am unable to get a connection although my PS3 is connected. I have taken the disc out and restarted several times but no luck. When I go to the Netflix sight it shows my PS3 as being activated. Can someone help me please?

Charlie said...

Got the Disc, activated the PS3, started watching movies and shows, easy to implement. I have a few observations that I hope Netflix can answer/comment on:

1. Retrieving. I've watched a few movies and shows so far but every 10 minutes or so the screen goes into "retrieving" mode. It takes anywhere from 2 - 5 minutes to "retrieve". I'm assuming this is a buffer issue and the PS3/BD-Live can only buffer so much before it needs to refresh. Any way to make the PS3 pre-buffer like a PC does when watching Netflix instant content?

2. The video quality between "retrieve"s is somewhat variable. At times the quality looks great, then good, then at times its fuzzy and the colors are pixelated.

Matt said...

To anyone with connectivity issues using a PS3, I just got off the phone with tech support and they said that Netflix is having an issue with Verizon Fios connections, which I have. Anyone with Fios will not be able to access Netflix through PS3 (not sure about other devices.

hi. Thank you so much for making the ps3 disc. It was incredibly useful and my wife and I were so excited to use it. We showed it to everyone who ran into.

Unfortunately it appears that it has overheated and killed our ps3 :(. We left the software up after we watched a movie, and a day later our ps3 will not turn on. we cannot get the disc out of the drive, either. We get the "red flashing light" that seems to indicate an overheating failure.

so watch out fellow ps3'ers. Ours was about 15 months old.
