Winner of Netflix FIND Your Voice film competition announced

After nine months of heated competition, 2,000 applications, some extraordinary scripts, tens of thousands of votes from the public, and review by our panel of judges chaired by Josh Brolin, the verdict is in.

We are thrilled to announce that Philip G. Flores of Hemet, CA is the winner of the “Netflix FIND Your Voice” filmmaking competition. Phillip will receive a prize package worth more than $350,000 to make his film “Touchback.” The package also includes a premiere screening of the film at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June 2010 and distribution on Netflix.

To watch the winning trailer and learn more about the “Netflix FIND Your Voice” film competition, see the official news release or visit www.netflixfindyourvoice.com.

Congratulations, Philip!

So I've decided that neither Netflix or Microsoft has any intention of ever fixing that shitty Silverlight and here's why. If they ruin instant streaming on the PC, even though we're paying for it, they hope that either 1. you'll increase you're dvd's out at a time plan, meaning more money for Netflix, 2. you'll run out and buy a Microsoft 360, meaning more money for Microsoft, or 3. new console buyers will buy a 360 and then sign up to Netflix. That way everybody wins. These are scumbag tactics that leave us PC people, in a word... fucked.

I like how Netflix was telling people that the reason Silverlight looks like shit is because their internet was too slow. And then Netflix reduced the Silverlight buffer from a measly 4 minutes, to a pitiful 60 seconds... like that wasn't meant to fuck people over. I was actually told that Silverlight looks like shit because my computer and internet are just too fast! Un-Be-Fucking-Lievable!

"Oh", they say, "did Microsoft Silverlight ruin instant viewing on your Microsoft driven PC? Just go buy a Microsoft Xbox and pay Microsoft $50 a year for Xbox Live and watch movies on your TV."

If Netflix and Microsoft are the ones in bed together... why do I feel like I'm the one getting fucked?

This isn't about being a Sony or Nintendo fanboy, or a Microsoft hater. It's about Netflix/Microsoft fucking people over. Plain and simple.

Stop asking about Netflix on the PS3... it's isn't going to happen. At least not for quite a while. Netflix and Microsoft are in cahoots together. Microsoft has paid Reed Hastings (Netflix CEO) quite a bit of money to get him on their board of directors, I'm sure. Part of that deal, I'm also sure, was Netflix on the Xbox exclusively. "If you don't like it", they'll both tell you, "piss off."

Wow. None of these comments even relate to the original post.

Congratulations, Phillip!! I'll look forward to seeing your film available through Netflix sometime next year!

How about a blog about how Netflix is working on a solution for the poor Silverlight performance. I think there are a few people who would find this more interesting than what's new to watch, when they can't watch it because of Silverlight. Surely there's another , and better, video player out there that does both DRM and V-Sync. Unless, of course, Reed Hastings is making too much money from Microsoft to care what his stupid little customers think.

Hey Netflix, I can watch Yahoo TV, full screen, on a 24" widescreen monitor, with Adobe 10 and there's no video tearing like that crappy Silverlight. Why don't you switch to that?

Oh yeah... I almost forgot... Microsoft paid you not to.

Congratulations to Phillip!

Whatever you do, don't let Zack Snyder direct, he'll just ruin your story. Hope to see it on Netflix soon.

THIS IS WHY I CANCELLED NETFLIX!!!

First off let me say I was a monthly in store member with Blockbuster for years then went to BB online. When the prices kept moving up I switched to Netflix Oct 2008. The main reason why I switched was because of the xbox streaming. However the xbox streaming turned out to suck massively with limited titles. It was an option I used once. Now I invested in a PS3 (hooray for me) and want to enjoy some Blue Ray. Netflix has made the decision to charge an extra $4 a month for Blu Ray movies. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. This is not standard practice at BLOCKBUSTER. I wonder why they don't promote that. So the other issue is that it's impossible to get a hold of anyone from Netflix customer service. They hide the phone number and there is no email. When I canceled the membership I wanted to leave my comments to them so they would know. There was all these choices you could select for why you canceled but none for the blue ray price add and there was no place for comments. Netflix, you have always sucked for customer service, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Alsot he Blue Ray price is stupid and not the norm. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

I think it's kinda funny, if you watch the trailer... you'll notice that they're using Adobe 10 instead of Silverlight.

What's with this ad? I don't see a 4.99 plan, and cant find an email contact form on you site.

Anonymous said...

You know, I thought I would look into the $4.99 plan and underneath it I saw a Starz Play only plan. I did a search on google and found this.

http://surround.verizon.net/Shop/Entertainment/StarzPlay.aspx

$9.99 a month for non-Verizon internet people.

It uses Adobe and Media Player 11.

It's non-streaming... you download the movie right to your pc.

I guess having to use Silverlight because of the studios and all the DRM is bullshit.

Yeah Microsoft... your money has created yet another fuck-up.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Netflix should offer an "Unlimited DVD/No Instant Viewing" plan at a cut price, as Silverlight has ruined instant viewing. Then I could use the money I save to get Starz Play from Verizon.

It seems you have no email for complaints so here is mine. I am SO TIRED of seeing your pop-ups EVERYWHERE I go that I would NEVER use your service. EVER.
Get it in your head! Pop up advertising is ANNOYING! Is your marketing guru trapped in the 90's or something?
And get a complaint email!

Well, they spend all this money to figure out what the consumer wants--how about a comment or suggestion email so we can contact them?? Why don't they have weekend service??? It's all about saving money for them....

Anonymous said...

Netflix hardly ever has any new titles that the retail stores have. Netflix just has thousands of OLD videos.
