Technology be damned... when are you going to bring streaming to Weeds Season 3 & 4, Stargate Atlantis season 4 & 5 and Battlestar Galactica?? Its not hard to do. I can encode a movie that I can stream within my house within hours... so why can't Netflix deliver more movies in a streaming offering... I am dissappointed and if it doesn't improve I'll probably drop Netflix in favor of a BlockBuster and Hulu combination.
Do you have to pay licensing fees when you do it at home? Netflix has to and they have to negotiate them. It's not that it's hard, it's that they need permission to do it; which you don't.

I think that Netflix should get some more 80's movies on Instant Play. This would make the wait for the mail to come a little bit more pleasant.
Either Netflix starts offering much more current movies on the instant download site real soon or I'll be cancelling my subscription. So far, this is a huge waste of my money. Great idea but very poor execution.

My suggestion is twofold:
1) Create an option to be notified by e-mail when a "Watch Instantly" item will be expiring in the next two weeks.
2) Create the capability to sort your "Watch Instantly" Queue by expiration date with the shortest times at the top of your queue.
I also asked Roku to start displaying any expiration dates you send them.

Ever since Netflix switched to the Silverlight player, the audio volume is not loud enough on most movies.
Hey Netflix.... give us the option to not use your horrible silverlight player. My Xbox is in repair right now, and since I accidentally upgraded to the silverlight player on the PC, I cannot stream a goddamn thing. The silverlight player blows. Unless Netflix increases the number of movies I can watch instantly, I will have to cancel my subscription. Why can't all the movies be seen instantly? Getting movies through the mail just did not work out for me. It was fast at first and then it slowed dramatically. The only reason I subscribed again was because of the instant movie capability.

It's not like it's a big loss. Either XBOX-LIVE or COMCAST is constantly dropping my connection when I start a NetFlix movie via XBOX-LIVE. Just signed up for streaming and I am pretty disappointed with the quality. It's a lot lower than a well-upsampled DVD. 2.0 sound with no option for 5.1 as far as I can tell.

Is there any hope that in the near future netflix will be renting video games as well as movies?
I swear some of you people are just idiots.
Streaming issues can be caused by a couple of things.
1.) Time of day. If your internet lags, so does streaming video. The more people there are online in you area, the more bandwidth is taken up and therefore your downloading will go much slower.
Think of your internet provider's network as a drain in your sink and the faucet as the number of people trying to access the internet. You have the water on low ( fewer people online ) and the sink drains fast enough. You have the water turned on high ( more people online ) then the sink starts filling up because the water can't drain fast enough.
2.) The number of people trying to access the same movie. 5 people will have an easier time downloading a file than say... 100 people. The more people trying to access a file, the slower it gets for all of them.
Think of it as a power outlet in your house. The outlet is the movie you want to access, everything plugged into that outlet is a person trying to access that movie. You have one item plugged into that outlet and everything works fine. The more items you plug into that outlet, the better chance you have of overloading that outlet and blowing that fuse.
When I see two bars for the connection, I will generally try another movie and see if I get the same result... which is very rare.
Why can't Netflix get newer movies to stream?
Are you people that stupid? Studios get revenue from movie rentals... especially when it's new releases. The studios own the rights to their movies and will decide when they no longer want/need to keep track of money made from that movie. When that time comes, Netflix will then most likely be able to pay a flat rate to the studio to stream the movie, instead of pay a small percentage of each time it is viewed.
It similar to why some movies will only appear on Showtime and not HBO. Showtime and HBO are a conglomeration of specific movie studios. Only movies from those studios will appear on that channel.
The streaming service is supplemental to the rental service. It's just to fill in the gaps while you wait for your dvd to arrive. It's not intended to replace their dvd service entirely. Besides, do you honestly believe that if they were able to stream all the new releases that you'd get decent quality on them? More people would be accessing them thus making it difficult to get good quality out of them.
People seriously need to think before they say anything.
Now if you want to argue about why dvds that are lower in my queue are being shipped before ones that are available listed above them... then that's a good argument to start.
