Share Ratings with Facebook Connect
Hi, Mike Hart here from product development at Netflix. As you know, we’ve been introducing ways for people to experience Netflix beyond our website with such things as mobile apps, adding movies to your queue from NYT or Rotten Tomatoes and of course all of the Netflix ready devices. Today we are adding to that experience by integrating with Facebook Connect. You now have the option to post movies you’ve rated in your Facebook profile. To link your Netflix and Facebook accounts, you will use the “Connect” button on the Netflix member site at http://www.netflix.com/facebookconnect. You will of course have the ability to opt-in or out at any time. As always, we appreciate your feedback.

I would LOVE to do this but can't get to http://www.netflix.com/facebookconnect. It says that page doesn't exist. Is it because it's still a work in progress? I'll be glad to wait. :)

Am I correct in my observation that it doesn't work with secondary profiles?
It would be great if this feature, and the Netflix API reflected the privacy settings you set on individual movies from the Friends > Movie Privacy page. If you want a movie private from friends on Netflix, it's safe to assume you want it private from friends off Netflix
@Dan, correct. It only works with the account owner. @Scott C, interesting thought. Could be worth looking into.
It doesn't work or do I need to change some settings?
Why is Netflix planning on evolving into a primarily download based business when most of the larger internet providers are clamping down on people that are doing it today? Does Netflix expect that Comcast will someday announce that their download caps were wrong and lift that ceiling once they realize the errors of their ways?
It makes no sense.
I'm a long-time Netflix subscriber. Have a few suggestions for the website but there's no place for offering suggestions, comments, etc. That's not very consumer-friendly. One suggestion, then, is that there be a button or link for suggestions. Another is that when the drop-down of recommended movies appears after the customer adds a title to the queue, there be a way to keep that drop-down on screen or return to it after the customer has chosen a title from it for additionally add to the queue. Very frustrating to watch them disappear when one wants to choose more than one, and not good for Netflix, either.

Any reasonable suggestion, like those made by Ben Kelly, are simply a waste of effort and time. Netflix is not interested in suggestions. No one from Netflix seems ever to take the suggestions seriously, or to try to address the issues raised by Netflix customers. And so, Mr. Kelly, while your suggestions are all reasonable, and have been made before--along with numerous other suggestions for making Netflix better, or at least "more friendly", I'm afraid your voice is lost to this company. Thanks for writing anyway.

There is actually a way to get back to that drop down list. When you add a movie, it give you the drop down list. If you add one of those movies, it gives you a new list of related movies. But if you look up in the upper left hand corner of the new drop down list, you will see a link back to previous list.
But it is true that Netflix does not care about your suggestions. Netflix is one of those companies that only cares about growing their business and impressing potential new customers. They could care less about your suggestions. They already have you as a customer and are willing to bet you won't leave.
Why does this only work with the primary queue? Secondary profiles get no love around here.
...so is there any reason I cannot directly email blog authors? Or anyone at netflix for that matter? I just want to make a simple suggestion, and the only related blog post I found had comments closed and my question still unanswered. Anyone know what to do?
Yeah, it's lame that Netflix doesn't seem to want to deal with suggestions.

There's no easy way to suggest titles. Or improvements to the website, including HONESTY about which version of a DVD is being offered for rent or ways for the service to acquire better versions of existing titles or stuff no one else offers, like Frederick Wiseman films, Warner Archive DVDs, etc.

I'd like to complain loudly once more and very clearly. The advertisements about piracy at the beginning of each DVD are extremely annoying and insulting to me as your customer. It spoils my movie watching experience and accuses me and my family of being thieves. I am a paying subscriber of Netflix for many years, so don't talk down to me as if I am a thief. If I want to steal movies, I'll go steal instead of subscribing to Netflix. So DON'T preach to me at the beginning of each movie and spoil my movie wathing experience. And please tell the studios that they are pissing off your customers with those ads. I dont want to pay money and hear you guys preach to me. If studios had better sense, they'd make their DVDs cheaper and step into the 21st century.

To the Anonymous poster that thinks Netflix controls what is printed onto DVDs: THEY DON'T. That's like asking for the Interpol warning to be taken off; it's not up to Netflix. They don't print these DVDs, the studios do. So if you have such a problem with anti-theft announcements, maybe complain to the right people?

Love Facebook Connect, but I have to agree with the previous comments: it seems that this would be an easy feature to add for secondary profiles.
is there anyway to get my movie ratings to post to the home news feed instead of just my profile wall. no one will ever see my ratings unless they go directly to my profile.
when i click on the link for this, it take me to the next page, but then when i click on the connect with facebook link on that page it does nothing. you hear a click and it stays on the same page. do i need to change my setting on my computer or something?
Sorry but I can not stand Facebook. As far as I'm concerned, It's just another myspace app. It would be nice if the Ratings & Reviews could be shared with profiles on Blogger.com.
The facebook connect feature should honor the privacy settings for friends that are respected in the feeds within the website. Perhaps the an RSS feed respecting those settings could be published as well.
As this point, I am not giving Netflix any free advertising on Facebook, or anywhere else for that matter. I have 10 new releases sitting in my que. And some of those were realeased over a month ago. Long wait to very long wait. I'm still waiting. How about instead of wasting our time with coming up with these brilliant ideas...concentrate on ways to get new releases out faster. I don't know, Blockbuster is looking awfully good these days.
I'll put it simply, so that Netflix can understand...your service is horrible.
I have friends who ask me about Netflix and I tell them all the same thing...don't get Netflix. They don't care about their customers. Not-one-bit. :p
