Josh Brolin and Netflix Launch Film Competition
Chris Garrity from Netflix communications here, writing to let you know about a national search for the next great independent film-maker that we launched last Thursday. The “Netflix FIND Your Voice Film Competition” will award one aspiring filmmaker the means, guidance and resources to make a full length, narrative film. Actor and director Josh Brolin will serve as Honorary Chair and panel judge. The winner’s film will be given a $350,000 prize package and distribution online at Netflix. Woah, I'm out. I guess I should start working on a longer script for the next competition... I saw this mentioned on TV recently, but didn't know if you guys wanted a basic plot outline, or a short "YouTube" version of the film or what.
This is a big undertaking. Can't wait to see the winners' work (If you actually acknowledge the winners and their winning film... no one ever mentions the winners of these contests).
Why isn't there any way to contact Netflix. The sound on a couple episodes of Maverick cuts out. I'd like to let somebody know, but I cannot find a form or email address to do so. Kind of dumb.
fletc3her, here is what I did when I had a problem with a disc. Go to your queue and find the movie you are having a problem with, then, click the link that reads "report a problem". hope that helps.

Netflix Giving You the Money to Make Your Film!
I suppose it's a good thing to support these type of films, I know I enjoy them. On the other-hand, I truly wish that Netflix's energy and resources be directed toward reducing the extremely long wait times for Blu-Ray rentals. It's almost as if they were striving to defeat the Blu-ray format.
I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me? I am new to Netflix and I was wondering how long the instantly watched history stays? Does it eventually cancel itself out? Thanks.

It never goes away, no. You will eventually have to click a button (Once you've watched enough to spill onto a second page) that says "See Complete History", and it will display everything on one page at Netflix.com (In your account area).
You can also sign up with Feedflix.com to see even more in-depth statistics based on your account, like graphs of our usage, and other things of that nature.
It's very interesting to look back at your entire history, the longer you're a member.

I recently signed up for Netflix premium service because they offer a fairly comprehensive service including the ability to watch movies instantly through either my XBox 360 or our new Roku video device. I purchased the service and the Roku device as a gift for my wife who is deaf and really enjoys watching movies.
We first tried the XBox 360 and found that there was no button for subtitles. Later we connected the Roku and found the same problem. We spent several hours trying to figure out what was wrong and eventually discovered that although the Roko and XBox 360 are capable of decoding subtitles Netflix video streams do not include the necessary data.
However, we did notice that foreign films had the Subtitle data encoded directly in the feed (open captioning). Our question is this… Would Netflix be willing to create a deaf/hard of hearing instant queue section that includes open captioning in the same way that foreign films are captioned? Open captioning does not require any decoding and does not effect bandwidth because the captioning is overlaid directly on the movie itself. My wife and I watch open caption movies at the theater on special days and this would be great if Netflix adopted the same approach. This may be something that could be done quickly while Netflix works on a more streamlined solution.
Please forward this idea to the folks at Netflix or Roku who are working on this issue.
There are a lot of people in the deaf/hard of hearing community who are very interested in how this is being handled. We would really like to see some progress soon. This might be a way for Netflix to show support for our community while it works for a better solution.

I have to say after reading the rules this looks like a sham. A big sham, it seems like Netflix wants to tag their name on a executively produced (by film independent) film that is already got financing for production.
This 'contest' is in no way to help indie film makers who don't already have a production company they work for/with. It doesn't make any sense, you must have a script completed, not talking drafts here, or story outline. You must have a crew, you must have not produced or directed a film over 70 minutes long. Who is going to have that, that has not made a film over 70 minutes?
Why would a writer/director/producer even think of entering this competition if they had their own production company and crew? They wouldn't be eligible for it anyway...
But this is what this competition is asking for.
If you're looking to help finance a film already going into production, don't advertise like you're helping 'starting' film makers find their voice. It's horseshit.
How come there are films not owned and rented by netflix that are on dvd like: "Liquid Sky" and "The legend of Billie Jean" ? ??
There is also nowhere to request they be added. I would like to rent more of this obscure stuff but have to go to places like greencine to get it.

The last 3 DVDs I recieved were broken. I go and report the problem telling the DVD was broken and ask for replacement. Guess what.......The replacement is also broken. CRAPPPPPPP......Its been a waste of money. Whoever is putting the DVD in the sleeve, what is that idiot thinking? Can any damn person be contacted at netflix to ask what is happening?

janapl, didn't you hear Netflix has 9.4 million subscribers now. That's a lot of competition to get those top movies on your list. Just be patient, you'll get your turn eventually.
The thing to do is add more movies to your list. Watch what's available now while waiting for your top four to become available.
Yo, Netflix! You want your paying customers' feedback or not? This blog is the closest thing I could find for providing any real feedback. Not going to call, sit on hold, and hope the person on the other end "gets it". Then again, probably would've been faster than spending the last 10 minutes looking for an email address or feedback form.
The lack of avenues to report problems on Instant Watch is highly annoying. In addition to the sound problems on Maverick that fletc3her mentions above, season 2 of Ballykissangel has a severe sound lag on the Instant Watch (and I am sure there are others). Simple problems like this could be better taken care of with some kind of complaint or report form. Despite many complaints in the reviews these problems are never fixed.
Increase your bandwidth please. Better (real) customer service would be nice, too.
Not related, but are there any plans to allow users to choose their own streaming speed? This doesn't seem like a hard thing to implement, especially considering the much more difficult things Netflix has done.
I have filed a complaint with the FTC regarding your deceptive practices relative to charging peoples' credit cards after their gift subscription has expired. I encourage other to do this as well and be aware that Netflix is engaging in deceptive business practices. If you Google it, you will find much more.

So, let me get this straight. You wanted your free subscription to continue once it expired? Do you think Netflix makes money off of free subscriptions? No, they charge you for the next month once the gift subscription has ended. You agreed to pay that in the Terms & Conditions. It's your fault if you didn't take the time to read those.
Any idea when MI-5 Vol. 5 and 6 will be available to watch instantly? I'm dying to keep moving forward.. I could wait for the dvd's.. but I don't want to! :)

Just to let everyone know, I cancelled my Netflix membership due to the CEO of Netflix proposition on taxes that he sent to the president. If you want to pay more taxes, go ahead, you can do it without wrecking the rest of the economy. Just send more to the IRS if you feel that strongly about it. Have consumer choice is a great thing. Goodbye.
Is there any way to make suggestions to Netflix? There are so many great movies in stock, but so many more out there. I also have a problem with a lot of the anime series missing season one! It's no big deal, but it would really be nice to know our suggestions are being considered.
