Just a quick blog entry to mention that we have moved the location of our Friends tab on the website. To access Friends, go to the homepage and you’ll find the link just to the right of New Releases at the top of the page. We haven’t modified Friends -- we simply decided this would be a better location for the link.

Well move it back- the new place SUCKS. I use it a lot and now I have to go three extra steps to get there. Why do you keep moving things around for no reason???
The new place is terrible. FRIENDS is one of my most used tabs. I want it back as a tab ASAP Please.
What an incredibly stupid decision, Netflix. I mean seriously, are your designers retarded?
You forgot to include a link to the Blog. All the people affected by this move won't be able to read about it here, if they don't have the URL or use the link in "Community Forums".

It seems the "movie privacy" feature is gone along with "most watched actors and directors". Anyone care to clarify?
This is just dumb. You need to make the friends section more important and stop trying to hide it.
How do we get to the Privacy tab, that let us choose which movies to show to our friends?

Thanks for asking us before making site changes. You always seem to forget that we pay you to visit Netflix.com, so what seems like the littlest changes to you can be frustrating and annoying for all of us. I just don't get it.
I would have do agree with the other posters here. The new home for "Friends" really is not user friendly at all!
Where before I could access Friends from any other tab, I now must navigate to Browse DVD's and then to Friends?
The move really does not make sense. Are you trying to tell us that we really should only care about our Friends when browsing DVD's? We shouldn't care about our Friends when we're looking at items to watch instantly?
Can you clarify "why" you thought it would be a better place? Maybe you can at least let us know your thinking, and then we can dissect that instead!
What about the movie privacy issue, I would like to keep come of the movies I rent so no one will see them, I can't seem to find that anymore.
Yet another Me Too on this being a poor design change. The queue tab is my starting point for the Netflix site, with occasional dips into the Recommendations tab. Now I'm supposed to go to the Browse tab, click on a pull down menu, then get to the community section? Ugh. This seems like a poorly thought-through design change. Please revert.
I concur with the overall dissatisfaction expressed here. Having to perform additional navigation/steps to get to Friends doesn't make sense and seems to demote the service.
How many of us are now going to be getting calls from our parents asking "Where'd the Friends tab go?!"
stop tweaking and leave things alone for once please, now I have to tell everyone where the friends area is cause no one can find the blog either.
That makes no sense at all! All the general and personal tabs have always been on the top of the menu, while the sub-navigation categories were below. Why? Cause it makes sense.
Netflix, you baffle me. Nearly every comment on each blog entry is negative, with the same issues coming up over and over again. Yet, nothing is done to address these issues and you continue to move, manipulate, and ignore things.
1. The move seems illogical; what's the reasoning behind this? I now have to take more steps, not less, to get to the community page.
2. Issues with streaming quality have worsened, and have not been resolved, as your blog states. I use Roku and not 360, but I used to get 4 dots consistently since it's release. I now start at 4, drop to 1 or 2 ten minutes later and remain there. Image and audio quality is no better than grainy You Tube videos.
3. I pay more for Blu-Ray titles each month now, and although I've not had a cracked disc come since the price hike, I was lied to when told the wait times would improve. New releases go immediately to 'very long wait', or if I'm lucky...to 'long wait', which means I should get it in over a month. I won't even get started on how long it took to get Vantage Point since it's release (anyone?).
4. You post a blog about layoffs and do-gooding several apart from each other. Not impressed, nor motivated to gift a subscription. Conversely, I am honest with people about my experiences with Netflix, which usually steers them away from the service. If things improve, I might change my tune.
I don't like it at all, i usually go to my queue and from there to my friend tab. Now i have several extra steps inbetween and there is no direct link from the queue to the friends tab. Bad decision.
I hate the new place i cant easily obsessively check my friends stuff and rank. MOVE IT BACK!!
p.s. netflixs doesnt work that well with google chrome.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to concur with EVERY SINGLE OTHER COMMENTER ON THIS BLOG. This move really makes no sense at all to me; the Community tab was always my first stop when visiting Netflix; now I may as well not even have friends on Netflix.
I normally have very little to complain about when it comes to Netflix, but seriously, this move is terrible.
Please, please change it back.
I don't mind the change, although I don't see the point. Maybe it is less confusing for new users? It still only takes one click to get to "Friends" since Browse DVDs is the page that comes up when I go to Netflix.
Yeah, I have to agree: I really don't think the new placement is working out. Not only is it silly to have to dig into all of the Friends & Community features by going to the home page, but these second-level navigation links aren't even visible from members' Queue page.
Also, I have to say, for an otherwise very effective and accessible site that appears to have been conceived with a great deal of thought, the "we simply decided this would be a better location for the link," is piss-poor justification.

I have to join the overwhelming majority on this issue. The "new location" for the friends and community tab is awful. Really what you've done is eliminate the tab and bury the link. I have to assume that this is a prelude to eliminating the community feature altogether. When that happens, you'll eliminate me as a customer. Here I come, Blockbuster!

I disagree. I think the new location is not very intuitive. For the longest time, I thought Netflix got rid of the Friends feature. It now takes like 3 clicks to even see my friends.
Friends and Queue are the two most used tabs for me and now you bury the friends page way too deep. Please move it back!
I agree with the majority opinion. The friends page should have its own tab. It makes no sense whatsoever to have friends listed under "Browse," and it's very annoying to have to return to the main page to access my friends page.
It takes a long time to get to my friend's queue now, lots of small UI elements to hit. I don't really care if it is a whole tab or not; but why did you make it harder to use the feature? I thought the community aspect was there to make the service/site more 'sticky' so you don't gradual lose people's attention/money.
I am not happy. It is too hard to find and certainly will not encourage new Netflixers to wander over there and join the fun.

I think it's fair to assume that the entire 'friends' feature is disappearing, which is unfortunate since that's how I find most of my movies to put on my queue since NF makes it hard to find the new releases at all...
And why can't I get to the NF blog from the netflix website?
Friends is part of the Netflix culture and I look at it every time I come to your site. What is the rationale in making it difficult to access? I will trade you the "what people are watching in Minneapolis" info for the FRIENDS tab back any day. I look forward to an explanation.
Since the Friends tab moved, I assumed the feature was eliminated. Finally, I figured out it was moved, but why are all my friends gone now? Do I have to start over and request they be added again?
Moving this tab was horrible. You can only reach it from the main page. Why is that? It's 100% easier to just click a tab on the top from wherever you are on the site. Please consider changing it back.
haha i think the move is correct, new releases should be as close to the left as possible. However, now its not next to Previews - and the real issue is that Friends can't find a real home in the nav. I'd reconsider the whole nav, since there's also the whole 2 queues/instant situation...

Netflix, I think you're a great service, but sometimes the site redesigns feel like they're just being done for the sake of being done.
It made more sense before and was far more intuitive. Why would Friends be on DVD browsing? They're a separate entity.
Instant view problem:Use wireless connection with Roku.During playback got "loading-please wait"many times making movie unwatchable with all the interuptions. Called the following 3-4 times: My ISP,Roku and Netflix. Given many suggestions but nothing worked to correct the problem. On my next call to Netflix I was transferred over to a technician named "Daniel". He had the same problem which he resolved by upgrading the firmware on his Linksys router. I upgraded my firmware:PROBLEM SOLVED. Nobody else of all the people I spoke to at the 3 companies even suggested the router as being the problem.How about educating problem solving techs on this.
It took me until I got frustrated and found a link to this blog until I could figure out where the friends link escaped to.
As a browser but more importantly - customer - the new friends location is not highly visible and a terrible move. It should be accessible from anywhere on the site (perhaps under "account" or a constant sidebar).

The new place is horrible! You realize that most of my queue is built from seeing what my friends are renting.

Gotta agree with the masses, this is a less intuitive location for the Friends link. I'd be really curious to know what the reasoning behind the switch was. I am sure some thought went into the change and that it wasn't capricious, however it doesn't seem to serve your clients.
One of the general rules of all website design is the three click rule, and while this hovers on the 3 click line, it is a pain if you are on any of the primary tabs besides the home tab. You must click Home, Friends, then any of the sub-sets within friends.
Please return the tab to its original location.

What's up with the reviewer rankings? I dropped from 1,000 to 21,000 over night. I added a large number of new reviews and clicked on many reviews and said helpful on movies I agreed with review and I fell even more. Others have less reviews, know one agrees with them and less total movie ranked and they are now much higher ranked. Anybody have an idea what is going on?
It seems to me like this feature should be renamed from "Friends" to "Strangers". The emphasis of the page is given to member reviews that I'm not interested in, instead of focusing on what my friends are doing. I love Netflix, but I think you guys lack in terms of social networking. Can you imagine your own profile on Facebook having a feed of ALL Facebook users instead of what people you know are doing?
The Friends activity is in the middle of the page, but it's all plain text, in a small font, and uses my friends' cryptic usernames instead of their icons. It's difficult to get a glance of what's going on. This is why I always skip straight to the "Friends & Favs" page, where I see my friends' avatar icons and a nice visual view of the movies that they have just watched and have in their queue.
But when I'm on this page, I feel like I'm looking at some backdoor that my friends aren't looking at and aren't participating in. Plus it seems like the content of this page doesn't get refreshed very quickly (and for some reason movies I *removed* from my Queue still get listed in my Queue tab which is annoying! Especially for movies I might have accidentally clicked on and definitely don't want people to think I'm interested in). I can't comment on their ratings or what movies they have in their queue or interact with my friends in any way.
One: Put the tab back where it was.
Two: For those who haven't found it yet, there is a small friends link at the bottom of the queue page.
Three: Netflix, don't try so hard to be glitzy, People want it simple.
Four: Regarding the "new" look for Friends and Favs - please forget it. I don't want to see what everyone is watching. I want my friends 1 to 1.
