Title Availability, amended

Hello, Steve Swasey again. I'm amending my entry from Tuesday as availability (or temporary unavailability) of titles is not necessarily a license issue. Otherwise, our statement from Tuesday is the same.

Amended statement: As watching instantly becomes a more prominent part of the Netflix service, our goal is to have all of our streaming content available for all of our partner devices. We’re doing well in this area, but it will take some time before we fully achieve that goal. Today, titles regularly come in and out of availability and there is a natural ebb and flow to what we have available at any given point in time. In the case of Xbox 360, a few hundred titles are temporarily unavailable to be streamed via the Xbox game console. Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers’ computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they’ll be available for Xbox 360 shortly.

  1. This isn't really much of an explanation. We're all pretty sure we know what is going on here, but it would be nice if you'd actually say it rather than issue this carefully worded official PR statement that contains more words than actual information.

  2. Amended what? I'm done. Tomorrow I'm canceling my Netflix account.

Between the mailer throttling, and the Watch Instantly [sic] problems, Netflix isn't worth it. I've had new releases listed "very long wait" for weeks, sometimes months. I can't get new releases in a timely fashion even though I live in the same city with a major distribution center.

I don't know what Netflix's problem, but you guys better straighten it out.

I really just wanted to relax and watch an online movie, and for the billionth time I've spent an hour screwing around. That's it for me.

  3. We all know that's it's Sony being immature and holding back their movies because it's Xbox. Why can't that just be said? This political correctness kills me.

    ReplyDelete
  4. If it is "not necessarily a license issue" then what is it? We know it is not a technical issue because people in the beta were able to watch these movies before they mysteriously disappeared. What possible reason could there be for movies licensed for the streaming service to not be available on ALL devices that are part of that service? When streaming rolls out for TiVo next month, will there be similar availability issues? When a person buys a device for Netflix streaming, how can they now be confident that they will get the full benefit of the streaming service?

  5. Is there a list out there of the HD content available for Xbox streaming?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Thanks for the update, but this really doesn't explain anything.

But really, (hi-def capability aside) why should there be a distinction between what device plays content, as long as that device is supported and authorized?

Also, Sony's statement saying that the Xbox issue had nothing to do with device or platform is a flat out lie. If it's available via browser but not Xbox, then it's about platform.

Stand up to them. Sony likes to bark to protect their interests, but they never bite. Take a lesson from Steve Jobs.

  7. Also, don't spit in our eyes and tell us it's raining. Just be honest.

  8. I think I'm more offended by Netflix not standing up for its customers than by Sony obviously jealously pulling content.

Sorry, Netflix. You are majorly dropping the ball on this one. Grow a pair and stand up to Sony on this.

  9. How 'bout a list of those 100 or so titles, so we can know it's not our setup that is broken?

    ReplyDelete
  10. JC, every title affected by the the restriction will show "Not available on Xbox" when you view your instant queue at netflix.com.

  11. I use the Roku device, so I am not up on the Xbox/Sony issue. This is a more general comment. I just looked at my instant queue and MANY of the items in it are becoming unavailable within the next couple of weeks. I got this device intending to use it to watch Netflix movies. I understood, from what I saw on Netflix instant six months ago, that movies would be available and not ever become unavailable. Now I read that there is an ebb and flow in the availability of streaming content. Would I have bought the Roku device if I'd known that? I'm very disappointed in Netflix.

  12. I was very excited to finally have streaming content through my xbox of all Netflix movies and was really disapointed. ONLY a limited amount of movies available for Xbox 360? Huh? You made this deal along time ago and had plenty of time to figure all this out. I resigned up for netflix and will now cancel. What a disappointment....

  13. Liz

A lot of those movies that are set to expire will probably not expire. This happened once before and most of the movies stayed in my queue.

I guess I don't understand the venom in all the complaints. With Watch Instantly, we're through the looking glass with the XBox. This is a completely new and different entertainment distribution model that Netflix is trying to create, and, for the most part, they're doing alright. A few bumps along the road should be expected. This is truly a cutting edge business model that movie studios are no longer able to ignore. Let's give it some time.

As to the Sony deal, it probably ISN'T Sony holding back on the XBox. Sony Pictures is a completely different company from the Playstation. And while Sony does have a vested interest in those 2 things playing together, Sony pictures is thinking about its bottom line. The truth is probably more about contract negotiations than anything. And yeah, it sucks, but let's see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Here are my list of complaints and forgive me if i am repeating anyone elses.

    1. The movie inventory available for internet(PC and XBOX) viewing is HORRENDOUS. It is worse than any cable package that offers On-Demand content. People want to have access to both new and old, and by new I mean the LATEST RELEASES (Iron-Man, Dark Knight, etc.). I don't see any downside to offering brand new releases via the internet (or 360). You will continue to have those people who order the DVDs and then you will have those people who are more tech savvy streaming the content. A majority of these tech savvy people will more than likely be new subscribers (i.e. 360 users) because of the sheer convenience, the "coolness" factor, and worthy movie selection. Pee-Wees Big Adventure, although a cult classic, is not what people are looking to watch form their netflix subscription.

    2. Xbox needs to do something about the quality of streaming. Yes I understand internet connection has a lot to do with it, but something needs to be done about the buffering, the changing of video quality during movies. Even a 3 bar video display on an HD TV looks worse then if you were watching it via a cable box. (maybe it looks ok on a normal def tv though, idk) You gotta think that most people with 360's are housing an HD TV though.

    3. What is the purpose of having this available on the XBOX if you can't SEARCH FOR MOVIES via your XBOX console? Again, there is no downfall to adding this as a feature, the internet site is always useful to add movies when not at your consoles, but for there should be the availability to search for movies on the spot via the console. You can search through a boat load of Marketplace Games/Demos/Videos, why not do the same for Netflix.

These are my main complaints with Netflix and Xbox. I think this could have great potential if it is done right and offers MUCH more than it does. You will have a lot of new customers (including myself) subscribing to the service if it is revamped to meet the consumers needs. But for now, I am going to be like the majority of xbox users without a Netflix account...use the free trial, then get rid of it once 2 weeks is up.

P.S. I am sure the company, both Microsoft and Netflix, have enough money to do a joint "post buy" or post xbox launch survey to field the opinions of the current software, obtain feedback, and see what will ultimately drive us to become a Netflix member.

  15. Hi - I couldn't find anywhere to report errors with Silverlight movies, so I'm posting it here.

If you choose instant watch for the 2007 film "Broken English" and scroll past the credits, you'll see that the audio and video are not synched - they're off by quite a lot.

Thanks for correcting this as soon as you can!

    ReplyDelete
  16. The availability hints are rather misleading - the last time I questioned this a "very long wait" to ME - meant quite a few months or more - to Netflix it meant "about a month or so"

Try to be a little more descriptive in your timing advices.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Forget the watch instantly thing - how 'bout just getting a title?

Title Request from a netflix subscriber -- I'm very frustrated. I've requested the following title now four (4) times in the past year. I've called customer service and they have "no information" about title acquisition and no suggestion for whom to contact other than to submit yet again a suggestion into the void. So here goes again with a TITLE REQUEST:

    Meeting Venus
    (1991)
    director: Istvan Szabo
    with Glenn Close, Niels Arestrup

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is off topic, but there is no Region 1 DVD release of Meeting Venus. I expect a lot from Netflix, but I don't expect them to acquire a DVD that does not exist.

  19. An a hardcode NetFlix fan, I am disappointed with NetFlix and Sony for the last minute change of heart.

How could this be a technical issue when
    1. Xbox Beta customers were able to stream
    2. Same content is available on PC and other platforms.

I am a Netflix shareholder as well as so please don't bullshit me

    ReplyDelete
  20. I signed up for netflix BECAUSE of the announced 360 streaming, which you have limited ( sony gave order, you put it as such in the system )
i am also now throttled it seems on my month old account with various titles taking both weeks to arrive and arriving out of queue order ( aka both show as avaliable, but getting a sequel #14 before Origional #13 in queue )

its starting to make me rethink my subscription, will also send this via email to support also

  21. Any plans to expand into Canada? I know a lot of xbox 360 users that would sign up if it was available.

  23. ATTN: Steve Swasey

As you have a well trained phone center staff, why not allow some of that great PR to respond to email? Sitting on the phone is inconvenient for me. All I wanted to do was to be more specific about a glitch in a recent rendal. Time to watch a one hour TV episode that expands to an hour and a half as I eject the disc, follow instructions to try to clean it, get it back in the player, have the glitch not work is frustrating.

If you have an actual email address I've been unable to find it. Your bouncing around with supposed "contact" opportunities is a waste of time, too. Please get a little more personal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. What's the deal with all these "very long waits." If I wanted "very long waits" on major releases like "Kung Fu Panda" or "Wall E" I would never have subscribed to Netflix. It would be easier to walk into Blockbuster and rent one of these titles, of which there are countless in stock. This will be Netflix's downfall unless they remedy it before "waiting very long."

    ReplyDelete
  25. What I find odd is that we can receive a Sony/Columbia Pictures DVD from Netflix and play it on our Xbox360 without "licensing issues" but we cannot watch the same movies streamed via the netflix "Watch Instantly" feature?! It just feels so "two-faced".

    ReplyDelete
  26. You guys have no idea how complicated it is to license movies. Maybe they should have waited to release this "stream instantly" promise until all the legal kinks were worked out.

As for the "very long wait" messaging I'm sure there is an algorithm that slows down your rentals if you rent too frequently. There's probably a point where Netflix looses money on you. It's something that you can't avoid if its that big of a deal then maybe cancel.

I'm happy with streaming from my 360 and found a few things I wouldn't have normally rented. I am looking forward to streaming everything in HD though.

  27. EVERY title is unavailable, mostly because your site is refusing to send data faster than 35K a second. My connection is rock solid and is pulling in 1MB everywhere else, espeicially speed tests.

Even when it's working you knocked the quality down so much it makes VHS look good.

What's the point of this feature when your service can't handle it?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm very glad to see that Netflix is so eager to accommodate so many different venues for viewing - however there is one extremely stable option being overlooked! The ability to use Firefox instead of forcing us to use Internet Exploder!!! I have SOOOOOOOO many problems with MSIE - even the latest and 'greatest' version - and it runs MUCH slower than Firefox that I spend at LEAST an hour each viewing (even during the 43 min TV shows) looking at the message telling me that my Internet has slowed and I have to wait anther 20 minutes, just to watch 10 minutes. It's not usually my Internet connection - it's MSIE!!! Not to mention the cuntless "fatal errors" and spontaneous shut downs of MSIE. And Netflix is the ONLY thing I *have* to uses that browser for. Firefox can handle it... please!

PLEASE PLEASE make it possible to Instantly View choices in Firefox!! SOON!! I view more onlne than I do on TV w/ only 3 stations, an have had ZERO troubles w/ Firefox where it's allowed. These problems are pretty much MSIE specific.

Other than wasting a rediculous ammount of time waiting fr numerous stops per viewing to reassess my internet connection, I'f had no troubles.

  30. I've seen shows expire and then be available again immediately after. I hurried to watch 30 Rock season one before the expiration, but immediately after it was available again.

Netflix is getting movies from several sources. For example, you can watch the current Starz lineup on Netflix, but what happens next month when Starz rolls over to a new movie lineup? It would make sense if some movies stayed around, but others disappeared.

Of course Netflix has DVDs for almost every movie they stream so that's always a back up plan.

    ReplyDelete
  31. You can take your "natural ebb and flow" and stick it where the sun don't shine. Your streaming selection is pitiful.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bryan Cristina, watch instantly works well for me on AT&T DSL.

I don't think the problem is with the service. Rather, there's likely to be a) some DNS configuration snafu that's causing you to be sent to inappropriate streaming servers, b) congestion on the network somewhere between you and the streaming servers, or c) both of the above.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The XBOX has so much potential, think about it you can save money by using the netflix instenet instead of having to pay more money with microsoft points. But the selection is horrible. It will get old fast unless you start adding titles. Think about what guitar hero did for music. Netflix has a chance to do the same thing for movies!

  34. Hope someone at Netflix is reading these comments -- I'm a brand new Netflix subscriber, just joined because I was delighted to see that movies can now be streamed over my Xbox 360. So far so good. Unfortunately, we've found that even over our ultra-high-speed connection, we're seeing a lot of brightly colored streaming artifacts. Unlike our cable box's VOD service, the artifacts make the video essentially unwatchable, since they garble the entire screen with patches of bright primary colors. There were stretches last night in which 30 to 40 seconds at a time were nothing more than colorful square blobs. Pausing the video to allow the buffering to "catch up," even for several minutes, had no effect. Hope this is addressed soon! If not, I'll have to cancel our trial. Thanks in advance.

  35. So how much has traffic picked up since NXE's launch?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous: That's great that your DSL is fine, I'm sure it's on the lowest quality.

Streaming was fine the other day, the last few have been garbage. ANY speedtest I run has me at 4-5mbps at any time I ever run it. Torrents fly, sites fly, anything flies.. except netflix.

So when I don't have a single issue anywhere on the internet and all of a sudden it's just acting up, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not a fault on my end. Netflix has some serious bandwidth issues and they're not owning up.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I couldn't find anywhere to send this message so I'll put it here: despite the obvious issues with sony/instant play/xbox, I will say that Netflix customer service by-phone is AWESOME. I called - waited a long time - and then it was worth it. I was having issues with the old player and upgraded to Silverlight (which I dig). The guy was super friendly (and not super fakey, either) and made sure everything was cool before I hung up. Maybe its corny - but customer service like that will make me hang on a bit longer. Thanks polite-guy I talked to on Nov 24 at 11:20pm.

  38. CAN YOU PLEASE ADD critics picks and award winners to the Watch Instantly. I have no idea why you guys don't have these categories for watch instantly. I mean there's probably at least 50 titles which fit this and are actually decent movies. But all I see in the top 50 are crappy movies. PLEASE ADD THIS TO THE WATCH INSTANTLY PAGE. thanks.

  39. Im about to leave netflix for its stupid DVD search. They purposely dont put Tropic thunder under their new releases because of the limited amount they have available, so you have to search high and low to see whats ACTUALLY out on DVD or not. You would never know on netflix.

I might leave because of this annoying ploy.

I am frustrated that I can't get any real answers and there is no tech support phone number at Netflix to call.

Please post some basic info for those of us the have a broadband internet connection, but our DISH box (DVR) seems unable to interface and provide the new service.

What good is this new capability if we can't use it??

  41. Well it seems that most people here have never run a business and regardless of whether or not they are all Sony titles (they are) but the point is it seems the commentors on here have absolutely no idea whats going on. If Netflix comes out and released a statement saying that Yes Netflix cannot stream to your 360 because Sony wont allow us to. How is that going to look for Sony? Most likely they would actually sttempt to probably pull all of there content from the website and would strain Netflix's relationship with Sony and as Netflix tries to move further and further into a digital catalogue they need to keep ALL of the studios on there side and not try dividing them up and upsetting people by release statements that wont have any effect except a negative one. So you can bash Netflix all you want for there careful chosen PR announcement or you can get use to the fact that with dealing with the movie industry there are contractual obligations and partnerships that conflict sometimes and as a result there is no SONY content on the 360 get over it its business just because its not the way you would run things is unfortuante but until you have a say in how they run things and make there agreements and distribution deals for us, youtube, hulu, whoever it does not matter.

    ReplyDelete
  42. For those following this, I added some movies that were previously "unavailable" and are now available on the 360.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Some, but not all, are avaialble now. Most notably, Spiderman 3, and Superbad are both still "not currently available on xbox".

You're almost there netflix, keep it up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It's not easy to run a major corporation and be able to provide everything for it's customers when you are being blocked by your "partners." Sony owns the rights to the material and is allowing Netflix to use thier material (for a fee), but sony has the final say. It is jus tlike companys that would not release movies on blu-ray, HD, or PSP discs. It is a format war and Sony wants to win. If you want to boycot sony, that is one thing. But to cancel your netflix account because of something that is out of their hands is ridiculous.

So if you went to blockbuster online, you wouldn't be able to stream to xbox at all and their library of movies is not even close to netflix.

If you cancel, you are spiting yourself and will lose in the long run. When they start streaming all the sony material you will all want to come back.

    ReplyDelete
  45. this has nothing to do with your post but I have been a Netflix subscriber since February 2008 and have rated 1428 movies and still have NO suggestions and never have. I called your customer service line to inquire about this a few months ago and they said they would "forward the problem to engineering" which is apparently code for "we're not going to do anything about it"

would be nice if someone actually fixed it

  50. I think it really stinks when I have an open space in my Que for 4 days and a movie I have in my que is markede available for the same 4 days and then it is NOT mailed to me and marked short wait. This is NOT fair. Available space and available movie for FOUR days and not it is a short wait. Come on, I am a long term customer with 7 movies a month for 45+$ a month and I deserve better. The long term customer with a high rental history should get the films that are marked available shipped in their available slot. NOT sent to someone that rents only one movie a month. For goodness sakes I pay MORE per month. What gives? This is not fair.

  51. Don't know why, but any speed tests I run on my internet connection put me at over 6 Mbps, twice what is recommended for DVD quality viewing, yet I get a very bad connection with the watch instantly. It either starts off bad, or gets interrupted shortly after starting and the quality dips to where the image is quite blocky.

I'm running it on the Xbox, if that makes a difference. I haven't tried just running it straight on my PC yet.

Either way, I wonder why the video can't download to the device (not permanently) and play off the drive (much like YouTube videos load as you watch). I'd be willing to wait a few minutes for a movie to start if it meant I'd get no interruptions and decent video quality.

    ReplyDelete

  57. Does Netflix have any plans to add director's commentary or other 'extras' to their downloadable movies? Or is this something the studios don't allow? Seems like it'd be in the studio's best interest to allow it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. "Ebb and flow" can also be attributed to unexpected demand. It doesn't take much upload bandwidth to cripple a single server hosting your movies. You have to have a serious number of servers with ample bandwidth available to satisfy the demands of the thousands of simultaneous requests one company might get for a movie.

To control that type of thing, you usually have two options. Throttle the server's through-put so everyone's transfer rate is slow. Or limit the amount of content available by any number of means (platform, which server the video is hosted on, etc). The latter angers a smaller audience, naturally.

So in the case of X-Box vs. PC, it might be that the amount of servers and bandwidth dedicated to talking to the NXE is significantly lower than that of the PC side. Or maybe they have all of Sony's stuff on an under-powered server.

Of course, this is all speculation. It could all be a Sony conspiracy. (or a combination of that and this inability to keep up with resource demands).

I just know I've dealt with streaming video issues in my own software development endeavors. It's not a trivial thing to implement on a small scale, much less something as huge as Netflix or Blockbuster.

  59. i think your watch instantly queue should be treated more like a library. when i add movies to my list it is not necessarily in the order i want to watch them, its just to have them in there so i dont have to search through all the available titles to find the ones i like. i spend a good deal of time searching available titles for watch instantly and then they get lost in my queue because i forget whats in there and i cant search it by any logical means.

maybe you should even offer a totally seperate 'Instant Library' for people to pick out all the movies they like and have them more easily searchable rather than listed only by watch order.

if we could sort our list alphabetically or by genre it would make a huge difference to how i use the watch instant feature.

also, load times and slow down are pretty bad when you have several hundred movies in your queue.

  60. I just want to be able to get a bluray movie delivered to me. I have a problem with the "long wait" or VERY long wait status on virtually every bluray title I put in the queue. Will you remove my $1.00 fee if you don't ever ship me any movies?

  64. Why can't soldiers overseas get Instant Watch access? My husband is in Afghanistan, and one of the reasons we upgraded to the $8.99 plan (I know, not a big upgrade!) was so he could watch as many movies as he wanted on-line. When he got to Afghanistan we found out that he couldn't watch them there. Is there a good reason for this? Or is it just something Netflix hasn't thought of? I think it would be great if they could make it available to our troops.

  65. there needs to be more transparency as to how popular, limited, new releases are allocated. the top titles on my list are usually not available for weeks or even months. Is it first come first serve as in a library reserve queue? Is it the number of titles you get at a time? totally random? you should have a transparent, fair, published protocol for this to avoid the frustration that leads to cancelation.

  66. Hoping that someone could answer a question. I noticed today that several movies in my Instant queue suddenly have "Available until December 31, 2008" in the notes.

Of the titles in my queue nearly half are showing like this. It would be pretty disappointing to see that they will not be available.

  72. Why will some of the titles in my Watch Instantly queue be no longer available after a certain date? I was hoping that the movies available to watch instantly would just keep getting bigger and bigger until they are all available someday.

    ReplyDelete
  73. @Randomlife: I just responded to this two comments up. If that's right, it doesn't necessarily mean that they will disappear on that date as the studios would most likely renew their 'lease' to Netflix.

    ReplyDelete
  74. This is a bit off-topic but I'm not sure where else to post it...

I prefer watching Anime in Japanese with English subtitles than in English. Is there any chance that this can be made an option for instant viewing?

    ReplyDelete
  75. I can't seem to contact Netflix, and I don't want my account. But no where on my account does it have the option of deleting/ cancelling it. So SOMEBODY from Netflix delete it, and stop sending me spam mail.

(my email ends with "yoh" I can't say it in public)

  77. ......Getting very tired of having a movie in my saved list ever since it came out in theaters, and once it's released have "long wait" to look at. Come on netflix, step up and meet the demand of the big titles. You have the box office stats, you know what movies you are going to need in extra quantities to meet demand, sack up. What a scam, long wait means 14 days or less. So I have to wait almost half a month for a title to be available, but netflix still seems to have no problem charging me full price when they aren't providing me the stated service (the ability to actually RENT movies, not wait for them) in the first place. What a scam.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I just got Netflix last week because i wanted to get movies through my Xbox. I made sure to enter the movies that i wanted into my instant queue and set up everything (including purchasing the 50 dollar xbox live gold membership, along with a xbox remote) so that i would be ready to watch some movies over the weekend. Come to find out of the 40 movie titles i added to my instant queue 18 of them will be going offline within 3 weeks. That is almost half of the movies in my queue. This is unacceptable. And on top of the we arent eligible for new releases, or any kind of popular movies. So basically i spend a ton of money for nothing. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Why do some of my movies say "Available Until"??? Why are so many titles leaving the watch instantly?

    ReplyDelete
  80. 15 of my 15 saves titles in my instant queue are up for expiration on January 1, 2009. What the heck is going on?
    Does anyone know?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Amazing how much people whine. "Whahhh!!! My title isn't available! {sucks thumb}" Did you know that watching movies is a luxury? I think Netflix is great - there is no way I could watch the movies as fast as they offer them (both in the mail and instant). If your choice isn't available, try watching something different. Novel concept huh?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I'm going to have to disagree with most of you who are complaining. I just hooked up my 360 to my Netflix account and it works great. The only problems I have with it are the limited title and the inability to browse from my xbox. Other than that, keep doing a great job Netflix!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anyone know what plan you have to get in order to stream to your xbox 360? I don't know which plan, and I don't want to get anything I don't need to.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think any plan except the lowest will give you access to watch instantly.

    ReplyDelete
  85. The content for watching instantly is the WORST! Why bother? I have had the service since the day the new platform came out for XBOX 360 and I have to say, this is the most underachieving product launch I have seen in years. The content is terrible! Why would you debut a product where the movies available are not anything anyone wants to watch anyway? Then on top of the terrible content there are streaming problems where the picture quality gets reduced several times during the movie to the point where its unwatchable. I had my internet download speed increased to make sure I wasn't the problem, then I WEP password protected my wireless signal, then I tried a wired network and still issues. I check my speed before every movie and it tests to over the amount needed to watch movies in HD which by the way after the third time with customer service they informed me it needed to be 5 meg. Do you think this is a good way to keep customers? Are you just trying to catch people for a month and disappoint them? What is the game plan? Since the day I started with this service I dont think you have added a new movie to the watch instantly service. Also, there is not a new release anywhere on here. I am having to watch TV series and documentaries to get my movies worth. What are you doing to make this a viable service?

  86. Hi...I've never written into a blog and it took me a long time to finally get to a place to write. Anyway, I'm requesting that you make "It's A Wonderful Life" available to watch instantly. Love that option! Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Would Netflix consider using influence to stream or make available in the USA the BBC series "Secret Army," produced in the 1970s and currently available on DVD only in Region 2, UK? Not sure where to post this.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I am also canceling my Netflix as the movies I wish to view remain on "very long wait" for an infinitely long time. I don't even get shipped the "short wait" movies. I get some movie that I just had to add as a "filler." The availability on Netflix stinks. It is not worth the monthly fee.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I got a netflix account last month hoping to watch instantly. Unfortunately all the good stuff is on DVD by mail. Then when I do add, it can take a week or so before I get anything from them. I live in Los Angeles, and this is BS. Netflix can suck a camels penis if they keep this up. I tell everyone to stay away from it. Pirating is much easier than using netflix. The browsing is terrible, the sorting is terrible. The web page is of ill design.

Maybe they will fix it, or maybe they will just continue to piss me and 1000's of others off.

Screw you netflix, go to hell and die.

  90. I can't imagine why you wouldn't put all your conent up as watch instantly. It is greener (no mailers, no fuel costs) and safer (no damaged DVDs about which customers can get furious) and no difference to you in costs (except you save on the costs above). you have/should have the clout to argue to copyright issues - you are renting the material in a format which doesn't allow it to be pirated - in fact, it is safer than the dvd which can be ripped. Data storage is much cheaper than physical warehouse space and finding digital conent less labor intensive than searching your inventory. is there some reason you haven't put all your content up? I can't fathom what it might be.

  92. I have joined the Roku nation almost simply out of curiosity. I'm glad I did at the moment, love the box, I have had no such problems with pauses in the play. I did get my ISP's hightest internet speed available before I bought it though...

My main complaint is like the rest, I wish there were WAAAY more titles available to watch instantly. In a perfect future world, I could cancel my cable and my tivo and survive for half the price (say $40-$50 per month) on recently released movies and tv shows that were made in the last few years.

Please, please, please do everything you can to make this a reality and keep us informed of your progress or pitfalls.

I've always enjoyed Netflix, I guess I just jumped the gun thinking much more would be available to watch on demand. As this model becomes more popular however, I beleive it will happen.

    Godspeed dear Netflix, GODSPEED!
