Price change for access to Blu-ray movies
Hi, Jessie Teitz here, VP of Marketing. This message is for everyone who rents Blu-ray movies from Netflix. You might have heard that we've been talking about changing our prices for Blu-ray movies because they cost more than standard DVDs. To make up for this significant cost difference, we've decided to charge a little bit more for those who want to rent Blu-ray movies. On November 5th, we'll start charging an extra $1 a month for Blu-ray access. For our members on unlimited plans, $1 a month for unlimited access to Blu-ray movies is a great value. We have more than 800 Blu-ray titles, and growing, for you to enjoy as part of your Netflix subscription. We think you'll agree, a $1 increase in your monthly subscription is pretty modest for you to enjoy this compelling format. If you don't want to pay $1 more a month for access to Blu-ray movies, simply remove the Blu-ray access on your account and your monthly subscription cost will stay the same. I look forward to reading your comments. Thanks.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 213 of 213 Newer› Newest»Wow Sean I think all I have to say is thank you for confirming what a lot of us have been saying:
No point to this price increase because if netflix was worried about the cost of disks they shouldn't have ever lowered the price of netflix in the first place and then there wouldn't be complaints right now.
But thanks for all those broad assumptions and inaccurate assessments of those who think this $1 increase excuse is nonsensical and lies.
$1 more??? Doesn't surprise me that a corporation would find a way to nickel and dime people in the midst of this economy. But wait...Blockbuster isn't doing that. Guess I know what to do now. Besides, I'll be able to exchange for a new movie right away! Consider this new surcharge as the straw that broke the camel's back. See ya.
Hmmm well I just downgraded my membership due to the ridiculous blu-ray increase. So there.
$1 extra fee makes no sense considering 95% of the blu-rays I get delivered to me have an identival crack on the edge of the disc making it unplayable for me...so basically i'm giving Netflix extra money for no extra service.
sometimes protests are made on bases as opposed to bottom line.
obviously anyone with a several thousand dollar blu-ray set up can afford the extra buck.
why pay it?
I moved to supporting a local independent store. Sure its less convenient, but I feel much better about the greenhouse gases not being burned to get the little red envelope to my house and by supporting local.
Wow, this fucking sucks, I just canceled my account and will be going too BB. They shadiest part about all this is that it was an opt out, I didnt know about this til I get billed, fuck you netflix!
Everyone should start cracking discs on purpose. Show those motherfuckers not too fuck with us.
I just picked up a blu-ray player and instead of loading up on movies was looking into netflix as a service to rent from. From the comments I've read it seems like I should be looking elsewhere.
I tell ya what, add more blu-ray titles and make them actually available and I'll give you a dollar a month to access *only* them. You can keep the sd dvds.
Deal?
If I'm paying more for blu-ray, I expect to actually GET my blu-ray movies in a timely manner and NOT have to wait weeks for them to become available.
I am OK with the extra buck.
However, what proves to be unacceptable is the long wait times for new releases of blu-ray titles. If you do plan to charge extra for blu-ray, please have reasonable delivery times for new releases. I am on week two to get The Strangers and The Incredible Hulk. It still says "Very long wait" next to each title.
What gives?
I don't really have a problem with an extra $1 a month. I mean all the new releases are on blu ray now and I always rent them. It's actually saving me money to rent about 10 blu rays a month rather than renting the same amount at blockbuster for 5.50 a piece...and I only get two days to watch it then. So yeah, I'm cool with the $1. come on people, an extra $12 bucks a year is NOT going to kill you.
I personally don't think that an additional $1 each month is going to make or break me. As a loyal Netflix customer, I understand the need to increase prices if it's affecting the bottom line. Blu-ray is higher quality than DVDs and I fully support charging more to access to Blu-ray.
If you're buying a car, you pay more for power locks, rear view cameras, and dvd players in the car. These are luxury features. The same goes for Blu-ray.
Good call, Netflix.
A $1 is fine as long as this isn't a reoccurring theme I have no issues. What I do have an issue with is the length of time it takes to get a blue ray disc. You can charge me an increase as long as the service comes with it. Further if I see another out cry about netflix cost of blue ray I'm going to freak out on one of your customer service people. You don't pay full price so don't try and pull one over on us...The better solution is to put HD content online! Wise up netflix
