Netflix Partners with Samsung

Hello, Steve Swasey here, Netflix VP of Corporate Communications.

We've said for several months that we have a fourth partner joining Roku, LG Electronics and Microsoft Xbox 360 to instantly stream movies from Netflix to your TV. Early this morning we announced it's Samsung.

The Samsung BD-P2550 and BD-P2500 Blu-ray disc players enable instant streaming of more than 12,000 choices of movies and TV episodes from Netflix to your TV. Of course you can use these sleek Blu-ray players to watch Blu-ray discs and upconvert standard def DVDs.

The BD-P2550 and BD-P2500 are currently available at $399.99. If you already own one you can upgrade it at no additional cost. The upgrade is available at http://www.samsung.com/bluraysupport.

Enjoy the instant watching!

Are there any plans in the works regarding Sony PS3 being able to stream movies to you PC?

This is all nice, but PS3 is currently the most common bluray player, and I think it should have been the first device to support netflix in the first place, since netflix is also renting bluray disks. Please tell us if there are plans to support PS3!

*yawn*

Why buy any other bluray player but a PS3 if you want bluray?

Of course, I like playing games too...

Guess it's good that these other non-game playing bluray players have another netflix option there Mr. Swasey since folks are probably canceling using bluray through netflix anyway thanks to the nice big lie we're being fed on why charge $1 more.

Please Please PS3. hopefully you didn't sign some exclusive contract with Samsung.

Does anyone know if the Samsung devices allow wireless access for streaming Netflix videos, or is it like the LG Network device and require an eathernet connection?

Btw, the comments on the LG post indicate Watch Instantly will not be supported on the PS3 due to an exclusive agreement for the XBox 360.

Netflix is already available on both PS3 and XBOX360 via this software:

http://www.themediamall.com/playon

Its available free for 60 days and 30$ per year after that.

Plus you get Hulu, CBS, Youtube, NBC etc. also on both PS3 and 360.

I also would like to be able to use my ps3. I read the post below and I was thinking 30.00 a year doesn't seem like much but when you add it too all the other spyware, etc, we have to buy every year, it's just another fee that adds up.

I have a request/suggestion and I'm not sure where to put it so here it is. I would like to be able to have this site also supply downloadable audiobooks that we can put on Ipods and mp3's. I found a site that does this for 15$a month and you get unlimited audiobooks. It would be a huge draw and a great moneymaker and we could listen to books while working, etc. It's not what this site is about, I know, but it would be cool. Think about it.
Thanks.

I searched the Netflix website from top to bottom searching for a contact form, only to conclude they don't have one.

Customers are required to dial a 1-800 number, which is a waste of airtime minutes, and sit on hold until a representative is available.

Blockbuster provides contact forms. Time to catch up, Netflix.

This is for the ignorant. Netflix is never, ever, not ever, going to allow streaming on the PS3. It's not going to happen. Why? Because Reed Hastings sits on the Board of Directors of Microsoft. Duh.

2. This is for the ignorant.

And how come netflix watch now is coming to Mac?

So you mean I have been imagining that I watched NetFlix on my PS3! See my previous post. And read before you comment.

Is not a solution. You have to keep your computer for streaming video. The same could possibly be achieved using free solutions: for example: VNC through web, etc.
PS3 support needs to be without any external devices, thats the point, I do not want to keep my computer on, while watching netflix, and polluting nature by using wastefull watts.

PlayOn by Media Mall is not a yearly fee. It is a one time fee of $30. Here is the excerpt from the website: "The software license costs $30 (one-time payment), and will enable unlimited access to all of the services available through PlayOn."

Where's the post about Mac streaming? Where's the signup?

Just add my vote for streaming to Playstation 3 with my current NETFLIX subscription.

I would love to stream movies from my PS3. it would be free rather than $50/year and the ps3 offers both hdmi and optical audio out, those would sure help the watch instantly cue.

Hello? Anyone home? When can we expect to be able to watch movies instantly on Macs? This is taking far too long. Its really not good customer service to exclude so many of your customers, but I imagine you realize that fact. Please expedite this process and let us Mac users know ASAP when the opportunity to watch instantly on our computers applies to us. Thank you for your immediate assistance.

Kudos for all the new streaming partnerships! I am a very happy Roku player customer, but I am excited by your new Samsung, Xbox, and TiVo connections!

I've been a happy and faithful Netflix subscriber for 4 years now and use it as an alternative to pay-TV service.

I am also eagerly awating the Mac player -- it's been TOO long coming for such an otherwise good service.

One BIG comment though -- PLEASE work with Sony and get this thing rolling on the PS3. Thanks!

I'm an XBOX 360 owner in Canada and I'm disappointed to learn that the Netflix service isn't available outside of the US. When will this service be offered to Canada or the UK?

I'm interested in the streaming HD feature to be released next month with the New Xbox Experience (Nov. 19)!

I would gladly plunk down my hard earned cash to subscribe to this service!

I'm also a Canadian and I own a gold subscription to XBOX LIVE and I would pay for Netflix if it were available.

Please bring it to CANADA!!

Thanks

Count me in for the PS3 petition. I'm already a paying Netflix customer and my experience with Netflix would be much much better if I could stream to my PS3; it's role as my central multimedia device is only lacking this functionality. thanks.

Dear Netflix,
I just want to let you know that joining Netflix is one of the smartest decisions my husband and I have made. We love being able to adjust our movie watching to our schedules and not have to go out and pick a movie or return it or worry about late fees. This plan is ideal for us.
Thank you!

I bought the Samsung BD-P2550 yesterday and was able to hook up the netflix pretty easy. Today the service could not connect. After a couple phone calls with Netflix and Samsung and then back to Netflix I found out Netflix is having an issue on their end streaming to the Samsund players. Anyone else having this problem? He said they didn't know why and wasn't sure when it would be corrected.

I bought the samsung bd-p2550 player on Nov 1 from Best Buy. It worked great with Netflix. It has better performance than watching the tv shows on the pc. I was up at 3am CST on Monday Nov 18 and my queue came up after hitting OK to the "Sorry" error message. When I came home and tried to use it again at 8pm CST, it stopped working (you hit ok and the queue never comes up). I called right away and they claimed it was a Samsung problem. Samsung claims it's Netflix. People...I just want it fixed! I've tried everything...two different internet connections (ATT Uverse and Comcast), two different routers, connecting directly to the cable modem, using a static IP address, using DHCP, upgrading the firmware, disabling netflix and going back to factory settings on the samsung player. HELLO? Someone needs to find out what happened Monday between 4am (when I know I was still watching the netflix tv shows) and 8pm. Is this that difficult?

Can you please add support to the Panasonic DMP-BD35K? This is a top-rated BD player that would be even better if it supported Netflix streaming!

PlayOn is a solution - but not ideal, because it requires another computer to be involved. The streaming does make the computer unusable, so no one can do any work on the computer while you watch Netflix on the PS3. We need a native solution. I'll pay money for it! Give me a $20 disk I can stick into the PS3 and access Netflix Watch Now.
